Do we need anti virus programs yet? And if yes, are there any out?

No...

Haha! Yeah that's the reality of the situation. Duts and Brador are too weak to cause any major damage in the PPC world at the moment.

Do we need anti virus programs yet? And if yes, are there any out?

There's Symantec, Airscanner, and a whole bunch of others.

Probably. ;) Come to think of it, I think there is, although you don't hear much about it.

NO......... right now it would be a waste of space; :D

if you check most pocketpc anti-virus programs you will notice there are no real updates to download!

it won't be long before we need it!

I'm sure we will eventually, but there's no need now. There's only like 2 viruses. So just don't download from an untrusted source, or any program that seems too good to be true, or warez. That'll keep 99.9999% of non-email "open me, please" viruses on ANY system at bay.

I disagree with the statement that the AV programs for handhelds don't have any updates. Just this morning, Symantec downloaded a new set of virus definitions. Last week they downloaded a software update to the scan engine. Symantec AV for Handhelds is an awesome program that runs in the background with a program called AutoDetect. Plus, as indicated by some, the AV software does not take up much space at all. Better safe than sorry.

i didn't say there were NO updates; 8O

my point is that the threat of viruses is not as high as desktop pc's! there have been small reports about viruses but currently nothing to be concerned about. :devilboy:

better safe than sorry...... i agree.

Not trying to belabor the point, but what does "you will notice there are no real updates to download!" mean??
Symantec obviously thinks there is a threat as they have updated my PPC virus definitions several times in the last couple of months!
Like most things, it's a personal choice.

hi, new here but very much interested to learn about stuff :)

i got a bit nervous hearing about that PPC virus and started looking for an AV. i ended up with airscanner. it seems like a good package with active background scan but it takes way to much memory, it jus slows down my system. i must agree with the others that there doesnt seem to be a very immediate need for one (at least one installed in your machine). m rellying now on McAfee's built-in scan for wireless devices (w/c scans whenever you activesync). quite slow but works well enough, plus its up-to-date :D
