Windows Media Player used to work fine on my PPC but now as soon as I open it, it comes up with an error message saying it cannot play this file becuase the required codec is not installed. When I hit OK , it wont go away and just sits there with this error message.
I am not trying to play any file, just open WMP.
At this point I have to soft reset the device, but it just keeps doing the same.
Is there a solution to this ? I dont want to have to do a hard reset.

I've solved this myself - but not after doing an unneccessary hard reset :(
I had copied some wma 9 vbr professional encoded songs to the storage card and WMP obviously tries to load these at startup. I removed them from the card and now I dont get the error.
So my next question is - is there a player that will play wma v9 vbr professional encoded music files ?

I am having a similar problem. I have been trying to stream these files. I have a Windows Media Streaming Server. I encoded the files in 256Kbps VBR WMV9 professional. It says it cannot open these files on the pocket version of windows media player, but works perfectly on my desktop version.
If you ask me, Microsoft is a bunch of f***ing retards for making the pocket version of their media player where it will hardly play anything! It can be done with other programs, so why not the one that ships? Yet, another reason why people don't like windows media player!
