IR Remote Control software

i know this comes bundled with the 2210 but is it available as a download? ive been thinking about picking up a 4150 instead of the 2210 i was considering :D

You'll find that the IR on the 4150 is in the wrong place and is not powerful enough to act as a useful IR controller - I've tried :cry:

You need to look for a pocket PC that advertises the feature 'consumer IR' - this is code for 'IR will work at more than inches from your TV'.

I think the 2215 is the only Pocket PC that has CIR, however, it doesn't HAVE to have CIR. My A716 has "FIR" and "SIR," which are different IR transfer rates (FIR=4 Mbps max.; SIR=115 Kbps max.).

Anyhow, mine works running FIR and PDAWin's TV Remote Control. I haven't tested to see how far away it works, but it is at least 8-10 feet from my TV to the couch. I purchased Remote Control, but also trialed most of the other remote controllers and they worked in my TV to couch range.

I'm sure FIR isn't as good as CIR for controlling devices, but it does work fine at much more than a few inches.

Don't know how it would work on a 4155, though . . .

The 54xx has the consumer grade (powerful) IR which is what I use.

The newer 55xx does not , another stupid HP decision.

The upcoming Loox will also have CIR. At least, that's what the specs say.

thanks in advanceThere are other remote control programs that are available. The Nevo, which is what comes with the 2215 uses a dedicated chip in the 2215, so it is not stand alone software.

thanks for the replies guys.... im pretty much set on getting the 2210 now! im still searching for a cheap tomtom 3 bluetooth and car kit on ebay but i think i can get a 2210 for about £215inc VAT (UK)

Nevo is only available on the devices it ships with and you can view those devices on their web page here. (http://www.mynevo.com)

I have the 2215 and I plan on upgrading to the Loox 720 because I wanted VGA and WiFi, along with the many features similar to the 2215.

lol. things have just changed again. just had an offer for a brand new 4150 boxed for £200! i'll have to kiss the remote control function goodbye now and say hi to a single slot, wifi enabled jobbie.

another thought. as you can tell im new to all this....

as ive said im looking for a tomtom3 bluetooth and car kit but someone asked me why i dont just go for a gps device attached directly to the pda. now that makes more sense to me cos you are eliminating the need for the tomtom3 unit AND youll have gps no matter where you are.... right? or am i completely wrong here? is tomtom the way to go or is there a better option?
