I have a pocket PC with bluetooth and a Sony Ericsson phone. Is it possible to get internet on the PocketPC through this phone? Will there be a charge associated with the useage of the internet. It's my hope that I can use the phone and dial into my own ISP then view the internet with my pocket pc with no additional data charges. Is this possible?

I used to dial in via infrared with my palm IIIe for at least a year. If you only access text it can be bearable.

It is possible, and you will be using your voice minutes. Be aware though that the speed will be horrible - usually 9.6 kb/sec. A normal land-line modem is 56Kb/sec downstream. GPRS is usually between 30-60Kb/sec, depending on conditions.

It might be worth shelling out for real always on GPRS bluetooth internet access, depending on your local conditions. Where are you, and who is your mobile provider?

I live in Canada and the phone supplier is going to be Rogers. Except it is not worth it get internet access through them. It costs $25.00 per 500K. that is too much for me. I'm definately looking for some cheaper solutions.

Thats equivalent to $3 per minute phone rates i.e it will take you 8 minutes to download 500kB over GSM, which if it cost you $25 would be $3 per minute. If your phone plan cost any less per minute its worth your while to just use the slow service.

Of course you miss out on the always-on service of gprs, but in your case I agree- at those prices its just not worth it.

You could dial up to your ISP without additional data charges however it will detract from your minutes... just have the ppc dial the ISP number...
