My ppc (e740) will not connect to the internet.

It is on an encrypted home network, I'm using win XP,

It appears to have good signal strength,

All indicators on the ppc look as if it would connect.

It shows data from the network in "settings>wireless lan utility>
Also shows data in the link information: SSID, Channel, IP Address, etc.

I just keep getting messege "the page you... not found"

What are the steps to take to trouble shoot?

Thanks

First, is the data shown in the wireless utility correct, or reasonable. i.e. is the IP address within your network, does the gateway entry show your router's IP and are the DNS entries correct. If these are not, you have another symptom. The cause is likely DHCP not working right, and a common reason for that is WEP key wrong. Try turning of encryption on the AP and the PPC for a test and see if that works. If so, it's just a key problem. Yes, you will get good signal with a bad key, you just won't pass any traffic.

Access Point. That is the fixed side of the wireless network. Could be a box by itself or part of a router. Get your friend or whoever to help out. First step is to turnoff WEP (the encryption) just to test that it will work without it. Everything else can be perfect, but if the keys don't match, nothing works. They are 26 Hex characters. It is easy to make a mistake
