Looks much better - much simpler too and you can setup to reflect your PPC! Seems pretty simple and intuitive.

I feel sorta jaded for buying PI and 4.0 student (for the second time) two days ago on the old-looking site. I demand a partial refund on account of the new prettiness!

 Okay, I'm very embarrased to be asking this.

How do you pronounce Handango? Is it said like the movie ticket service Fandango (http://www.fandango.com)?

Or is it pronounced HAND-and-go?

I've been wondering about this for quite some time now but was too  to ask. Now this thread gives me the perfect opportunity to humble myself and admit my ignorance.

They still don't have the e800 listed. :bad-words:

I sent them an email about it.

Oh boy, a fixed width page, so now 800x600 users have to suffer horizontal scroll bars, and higher res users have to deal with stupid wasteful borders.

I thought was HAND-and-go, but when I went to this year's Handango Summit I found out it's like fandango...

I will not spend a penny with HANDANGO anymore - in my eyes they are the biggest rip-off. They just increased their fee to the developer from 30 to 40 percent 8O 40 percent 8O for what please?

So are you guys here aware that of every purchase with HANDANGO the developer only gets 60%? What service does provide HANDANGO for you that justifies that you give them 40% of the product price?

With a their market position I can only see this as an illegal use of a monopoly position. Someone should really shut them down

I think this was discussed before in another thread. But in my view they provide a big framework that allows the developers to take their software even further than simple web distribution. They have distribution and store management agreements with mobile operators (Orange, Vodafone, Telstra and others), they operate stores for partners (Microsoft, palmOne, Sony Ericsson, Pocket PC Thoughts and Geekzone (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/store)), developers have new options on charging (premium SMS for example, where you can download a software and pay via SMS), discount code management, cross selling, and so much more I'll stop here. They do offer a huge infrastructure, and I've seen their justification for this change.

The new handango tells me that I can "Browse by Operating System" (e.g. Pocket PC and Smartphone)... but when I click on "Windows Mobile™ Smartphone" I get:

We apologize for the confusion, but you must select your manufacturer and model to browse for that operating system.

It's not me they're providing the service to as much as the developer. I buy PPC software based on the product, not based on where I download it from. If the developer chooses to use Handango, and if the product is worth the price I'm paying, then I get it. How they split that price is between them.

And Handango is hardly a monopoly (not that there's anything illegal about being a monopoly). There's Pocket Gear and several more general software payment sites people can use. And, of course, the developer can always set up their own online store and bypass such services altogther.

If you find yourself thinking that they can't do that because they need Handango for the publicity of their product, then you will have answered your original question. As a developer, your costs of development are the same whether you sell one copy or a million, so all that matters to you economically is to have the highest total revenue in return for your work. If you will sell enough more licenses by listing on Handango to exceed (after the 40% deduction) the total revenue you'd have made if selling in your own store (less the costs of maintaining that store, paying Visa or MC their share, etc.) then you're better off using Handango. If not, then don't use them.

I sent them an email about it.

And they are dealing with that at the moment. :) Are there any other devices that folk have notice that are not listed?

That's actually fair enough I believe. Different devices have differing capabilities. All Windows Smartphones should be listed. Is yours not? .

Handango forgot LOTS of devices in their lists. I sent them countless email.

They don't even list the Toshiba e800 series!

Yes, different devices have different capabilities, that's true, but it is also true that different versions of the OS have different capabilities.

One of the big problem with the new Handango is that you can only select the device, but you cannot select the version of the OS/Firmware they use.

For example the Motorola MPX 200 (Smartphone 2002) can be upgraded to Smartphone 2003, and the Toshiba e805 (Pocket PC 2003) can be upgraded to Windows Media 2003 Second Edition. Software may not be compatible with the OS upgrade.
