text input pop-up ONLY on command?

i get really annoyed that my text input are pops up basically all the time (i happen to use word logic but it happens this way with any method). I know i read about a way where you can supress it to ONLY pop up when i click the bottom right corner button... but i can't find my notes or links (or w/ a search!). please help - i'd really be hype.

well, i can assure you there IS an answer... a freeware app i think - i just can't remember what it is - but i have seen it (and no not in a dream :)
