Sony U70: Exposed!

By small, I mean bigger than a Pocket PC and an OQO, but smaller than a laptop or tablet. And unlike the OQO, you can actually buy one if you're so inclined. An enterprising soul has taken it upon himself to take his U70 apart so we can all enjoy the fruits of the Mighty Sony Engineers. Looking at the pictures, it's pretty amazing how much stuff they managed to cram into such a small space. There are four hi-res pictures in the linked directory, so check 'em out if you'd like to see some steamy miniaturization action. ;)

Yeah, I removed the Pentium M processor and placed an ARM running at 624MHz. Now, I can play Sky Force (http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=14651) in all its glory! :lol:

Just kidding, I don't know who took apart these pictures that are posted on my site, but we've had some talks in the Kemplar Forum and no one is willing to take the risk to open it, swap the hard drive, change the processor, or add a flux capacitor running at 1.21 gigawatts.

Sony is a real stickler about users peeking into the hood of their masterpieces, and no one would want to have to ship a busted $2000-2500 unit back to their exporter in Japan, who will then turn it over to a Sony Japan repair center, where a technician will find out they did something, and say, "Sorry, it's not covered."

Hm, dunno... if I look at http://www.beyondthetech.com/downloads/sonyu70/Pictures/U70_frontpanel_bottom.jpg and see little wires running from top to botom I cannot get the impression that the device has all parts where they should be :roll:
