I had way to much free time on my hands and have been searching the FCC website:
http://svartifoss2.fcc.gov/prod/oet/cf/eas/

Go to generic search on the left

Under the applicant name enter compal electronics inc
Under grant date enter 01/01/2004 to 07/30/2004 and you will see an entry dated 07/28/2004

I found two grants 1) pertains to the H6300
2) pertains to ?

The FCC IDs of these two things are for 1) GKRP5TH6300
2) GKRPPCE830W

I believe that the FCC ID for the approved orginal equipment 7/28/2004 is the HX4700. You cannot see any documents associated with this yet, but if you click on the Display grant icon, you see something very exciting referencing a "Pocket PC with 802.11b and bluetooth transmitters"

Since these two FCC id's are closely related, and by Compal electronics, I think this is the real deal

Enjoy the speculation,

Jaydoc05

P.S. we cannot be for sure that this is the HX4700 until some pdf documents are associated with that entry. Then we can see pictures and manuals.

I think it smells like it though

Another way to get right to this is under generic search enter: GKR on that first FCC ID entry and PPCE830W on the second line of the FCC ID search line.

Hope it is true :|

Nice detective work! :) Keep on watching, and if the docs crop up, submit it as news -- we'd be happy to frontpage it.

It says "830" at the end... wasn't that the rumored number for the Toshiba e805 re-release?

I mean, the numbers don't always mean things, and I don't know who makes PPCs for Toshiba, but since the other one says 6300 and *is* the 6300, maybe the 830 is... an 830.

Bear the following in mind:

1) Compal make Toshiba Pocket PCs - and indeed the e805

2) The FCC reference for the e805 WiFi edition did indeed end with 805W (or was it 800W)

3) The long rumoured e805 update is supposed to be the e830

All-in-all - I'd be surprised if it turns out to be the hx4700.

If it is a new Toshiba mind - that still counts as a major find...!

[some thinking outside the box time - what if:
a) Toshiba commission an e830;
b) naturally they choose a 4 inch model and stick in some new features;
c) but then decide to jump the PDA market;
d) Compal hawk the e830 prototype to other prospective OEMs - HP look at it and think - ah, a quick and easy VGA Pocket PC (thus explaining why the hx4700 seems to be so far removed from any of the old or new iPAQ designs)....?]

Yeah the model number gets me as well; however, the upcoming IPAQ RX series is on the FCC website and has this:

http://svartifoss2.fcc.gov/prod/oet/cf/eas/reports/ViewExhibitReport.cfm?mode=Exhibits&RequestTimeout=500&calledFromFrame=N&application_id=329190&fcc_id='NM8DF'

and if you notice (by returning to the generic search and entering the NM8 DF in the search, you see the submitting company is "High Tech Computer Corp

Look forward to more news.

So NM8DF refers to the RX Ipaq series. There may be no rhyme or reason to these numbers

P.S. we cannot be for sure that this is the HX4700 until some pdf documents are associated with that entry. Then we can see pictures and manuals.

Unfortunately, there's no need to wait. It's not an HP model. The new lineup of iPaqs are made by three companies. Compal makes only two models - the h6300 (with and without the camera).

hx4700 is made by HTC.

If it is a new Toshiba mind - that still counts as a major find...!

I think I have not found the HX4700, I think I found a new Toshiba.

The FCC ID number for the E800/805 was GKRPPCE800W

And this "unknown" device I had been speaking of has this FCC ID GKRPPCE830W

I guess may be wrong about the HX4700. It must be made by High Tech Computers and not Compal

Not quite FCC approval - but the hx4700 was Bluetooth qualified today: http://qualweb.bluetooth.org/Template2.cfm?LinkQualified=QualifiedProducts&Details=Yes&ProductID=1888

jaydoc05,

You have indeed found the elusive Toshiba e830...! Looks like Toshiba aren't leaving the Pocket PC market after all! No photos or manual until 15 September (they've obtained confidentiality) but:

Evidence 1: FCC label saying 'Toshiba Pocket PC e830' - https://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/oet/forms/blobs/retrieve.cgi?attachment_id=455134&native_or_pdf=pdf

Evidence 2: There will be a Bluetooth only and BT/WiFi dual version - https://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/oet/forms/blobs/retrieve.cgi?attachment_id=455132&native_or_pdf=pdf

Evidence 3: Possibly the same basic 'look' as the e805? - see illustrative picture used here - https://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/oet/forms/blobs/retrieve.cgi?attachment_id=455135&native_or_pdf=pdf

I reckon you've made a bigger find there than just the FCC docs for the hx4700...! :)

Whereever did you find those documents?

It feels good to spoil secrets

Whereever did you find those documents?

FCC - using the GKRPPCE830W ID you found earlier - but after you had found the ID they went and added some documents...! :)
