The iPod Nano is easily one of the hottest players on the market, and if Microsoft's strategy is to succeed, they really need to target that demographic. As for a 'truly WiFi-enabled device', well, I agree wholeheartedly with Engadget when they said "upgrade the firmware and add the features, don't try to sell us a v2 device that does what the V1 device can and should." The Digital Music News article can be found here.

I'm confident that they'll upgrade the firmware to allow us to upgrade. They'd piss off every one of the people who actually bought a Zune on the promise of Zune expandability if we didn't get it. And they've said in numerous interviews they fully intend to. So I think we will.

I would be royally ticked if they opted to just release a v2 rather than provide a firmware update. I don't mind if a v2 is released, so long as my Zune gets an update as well.

Good greif! This holiday season before we see a flash based player? Why so long? It almost seems that MS would have been better waiting off until holiday '07 to make the Zune debut with multiple models and more features.
