Anyone know of a new ppc that has all of these features:

Windows Mobile 2003 SE
VGA Screen
sd slot
cf slot
wifi
bluetooth
consumer ir

I know this is asking for a lot, but I can't decide what to sacrifice if I upgrade from my iPAQ 2215. The only model I can find that has all of these is the LOOX 700 series, but I don't know when it is coming and I am not positive that it has the consumer ir.

Thanks in advance for any response!

Does it have a consumer ir? I thought that it did not, but I would love to be wrong!

The Asus A730 should do the trick. (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=29393&start=0) They're supposedly coming out with a WiFi + Bluetooth version after the Bluetooth only model debuts. I'm pretty sure this is the device that'll replace my 4150. 8)

Does the Asus have the consumer ir? The only info I could find said it had the FIR, but I am not sure. I am really spoiled by the CIR in my iPAQ 2215.

The Loox 720 is indeed the only (known) upcoming Pocket PC to have all of those features.

The iPAQ hx4700 will have them all except for the CIR (though the odd RAM/ROM and touchpad are love it or loathe it features).

The Asus a730 has all of those features except for the CIR (though Bluetooth is only version 1.1 - the other two have 1.2 - which makes for a better Bluetooth/WiFi experience through reduced interference).

The CIR in the Loox 720 is a fact straight from the official Fujitsu-Siemens datasheet.

A comparison of the features of the three upcoming VGA PPCs (along with a comparison to the dimensions and weight of the e800) can be found here (http://www.firstloox.org/VGAppc.htm).

No other VGA PPC has been announced (not even a good rumour...!)

Thanks, Duncan. You are awesome.

Any idea when the LOOX 720 will be available, and for how much? I want one!

asus a730 and ipaq 4700 seems good devices for you.
i agree with all your list of requirements for a replacement for my 2215. but i wont mind if my device will have a CIR or not.
i am willing to have a jog dial which is more important for me. AFAIK asus has a jog dial while the new ipaq dont.

Loox 720 - expect mid-August

Asus a730 - BT only - expect mid August; BT/WiFi version - expect late September (though I've seen November given also and there are rumours that they are trying to rush out the BT/WiFi one at the same time as the BT only)

iPAQ hx4700 - looks like we'll know on Monday when that will be released - could be as early as next week...

Price of Loox 720? Not sure - I've seen a few suggestions but they differ quite a bit. I would guess at c. €600/£400 - €650/£430 (roughly $620 - $670 US). I've seen lower - but not higher (plus - these are suggestions of the 'official' price rather than what it will *actually* sell for...!)

Which is fair enough - but I get the distinct impression that it *does* matter to superfaron...! :)

Don't forget the one thing that the Asus should have that the others won't is the camera. Not that it is a big issue... but for those that didn't know.

Both the Asus a730 AND the Loox 720 will have a camera.

oh camera! this makes the unit bigger in size and heavier and maybe adds 10-20 $ to the price but what we get? a cheep and useless camera!
like the one on my mobile phone, i never use it

Not really. The CCDs are incredibly tiny. Of course, that's part of the reason it's so mediocre in quality.
