View Full Version : Transcriber keyboard icon
I've updated my ROM to the 1.10 and have noticed that when I tap on the keyboard icon on the Transcriber toolbar that the symbol board comes up instead.
Anyone had this problem and have a solution? I'm not saying it didn't do it before but just noticed it now. The version is 1.51 std(e).
Thanks for the help.

You didn't say what Pocket PC you had (ROM 1.10 doesn't help much), but it probably doesn't matter -- my iPAQ 5550 behaves the same way.
However, I think that's how it's supposed to work. The help says
By using the Quick Correct gesture or the 'keyboard' button on the Iconbar when no text is selected, you can open the Microsoft Transcriber Keyboard. The Keyboard provides an easy way to add punctuation or a special symbol to the existing text.
If you were expecting the standard SIP keyboard, you have to switch input methods to get that, it seems.

Sorry, I have the h2215 but I actually tap on the keyboard icon and not use the gesture. Anyway, my older Jornada 567 didn't do that. I'll search the MS Knowledge Base and see what I can find.
Thanks

The transcriber keyboard is a full SIP keyboard, or just a mini puctuation/symbol keyboard, at your choice -- the switch to toggle between the two is the little keyboard icon on the upper right hand side of the top bar of the keyboard itself, right between the x and the little magnifying glass.
Oops. I'm sorry. I'm talking about Calligrapher. For some odd reason my brain just interprepted your posts about Transcriber as being about Calligrapher!
I had Calligrapher before but it had that conflict with Pocket Informant regarding the rapid battery leakage with many an h2215. I haven't checked however, to see if that has all been cleared up with Calligrapher's new version, or PI.
Any info about that?

Transcriber only brings up a special character keyboard as AFAIK. Used to be a little square block. Now it seems to be two lines down at the bottom (WM2003SE at least). There is no option for a full keyboard without changing SIPs.
Calligrapher does have a full keyboard directly accessible from the Calligrapher SIP button bar. It is also relocatable, via drag, on the screen. That's one of the things I like about Calligrapher
