I'm getting the Dell X30 324Mhz but don't know what to do about a cradle because I don't know what one is or its benefits.

Can someone explain this to me?

I just have to decide whether I'll order one extra because the 324Mhz doesn't have one.

Thanks.

The cradle allows you to dock and sync it at the same time, and to have it sit upright on your desk. Without the cradle, you can still sync and recharge it, you'll just be using cables instead. The cradle makes it easier in my opinion, but some people prefer to keep their desks clear of cradles. It's really up to you. :-) The cradle also has a slot for recharging a second battery.

Sorry to sound like a noob but what does dock and sync do?

Also, is it not possible to charge a 2nd battery without the cradle or can the cables do that?

Thanks.

When you connect the Axim to your PC, you can synchronize data between them--for instance, keeping all your email, contacts, files, and appointments current on both devices. This is referred to as syncing.

No, the cables can't charge a second battery. To keep two charged batteries using the cables, you would have to charge one in the Axim, then replace it and charge the other.

Docking is essentially a word for connecting the PPC to your PC. You would do that to sync, which is reconciling information between your PPC and PC such as contact lists calendar entries, and even assorted files.

No you can't charge a second battery external to the PPC without a cradle. You can charge a battery in the PPC, replace it with another and charge that. The charged battery outside the PPC will retain that charge for a long time, to be used for emergencies or particularly long sessions.

I didn't get a cradle with my X30, because I keep mine in a SENA case and would have to remove it to cradle it. My HP 2215 and 4155 can be cradled with their SENA cases on, and I have cradles for these.

If you decide on a cradle, you might look at the differenc in price between the 312 model + cradle and a 624 model, which comes with the cradle. Lately, looking at it that way, you are only paying about $25 more for the higher end X-30.
