<img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/logsdon_20040720_janakposts.gif" /><br /><br />35 years ago today, the Eagle landed on the Moon. 19 years ago today, treasure hunters found the Spanish galleon <i>Nuestra Senora de Atocha</i>, which sank off the coast of Key West, Fla in 1622. The ship contained over $400 million in coins and silver ingots. What's all this got to do with Pocket PC Thoughts? I'm glad you asked! <br /><br />You see, we have our own first to celebrate today, from one of our most valuable members. I'm referring, of course, to Janak Parekh's ascension to the peak of 10,000 Posts. Quietly, stealthily, like a panther with a moustache, he <a href="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=29950&start=0">slipped past our Illustrious Founder</a> and planted his flag firmly at the peak of the mountain, the first poster in the Thoughts Media family to hit that giddy height on one site. And he did it all without a Sherpa. While Janak is obviously the most prolific poster here, he's also one of the most informative and helpful. Without people like Janak, this community of ours would be a much poorer place. Salutè!

The Atocha was discovered off the Tortugas not Key West.
http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~mars/expedit.htm

On July 20, 1985, sixteen years of treasure hunting paid off. At about one in the afternoon, Mel's marine radio crackled to life in his Florida office. It was his son, Kane, Captain of the Dauntless. "WZG 9605. Unit 1, this is Unit 11. Put away the charts; we've got the mother lode!" While diving about 40 miles west of Key West, Florida, Andy Matroci had discovered a hoard of gold bars that unquestionably marked the discovery of the Atocha.

I think we've got enough accuracy here in treasure history for a PPC site. It's not like Pat was trying to slight a geographic location, or was making it up.

Let's move on. ;)

As someone who has shared an office with BigDaddyJ, I thought I would let you all in on one of the secrets of his massive post count:

He types faster than you do.

No, I mean, he types, way, way faster than you do. He assaults the keyboard, and the letters fly. Curious passerby poke their noses in the door to see what the weird noise is.

He also thinks fast and talks fast, but the mad keyboardin' skillz are truly freaky.

Here's to post 20000 :)

Hey - I wonder at what point the postometer flips...

AFAIK whole PPCT runs on the PHPBB, I've just installed one and counter is the type "unsigned mediumint", which is a 8-byte unsigned integer. So maximum value for it is 256^8 - 1 , what is equal to 18446744073709551615. Something tells me, that Janak should post a bit more than 11 posts / day, if he want to make it in this life. (It's 842317080991304 posts / day if he want to make it on the next 60 years). :D

:rotfl:

That said, in the interest of true geekiness, I looked it up. UNSIGNED MEDIUMINT as a SQL datatype has a maximum value of 16,777,215 -- so there's some disagreement here as to whether it's actually 4-byte or 8-byte. That's only 45,000 posts per day if I want to make it in the next year... ;)

I was gone for almost a week, and the biggest surprise is that both Janak and Jason didn't pass 10,000 posts (as of now, Jason has 9974 posts, while Janak is at 10,073). It's nice of Jason to wait a bit to avoid stealing Janak's moment. :-D

Ed has a pretty big lead, but nobody is really close to 10,000. Plus, nobody posts like Jason and Janak. Kati used to (when she first joined, she had over 9 or 10 per day), but now that she's working, she seems to have tapered off to under 7.
