I love the OQO (http://www.oqo.com). But I just saw the Vulcan FlipStart PC (http://www.flipstartpc.com) and I like that much better. Don't care about Sony's model. i hope this stuff ain't vaporware, anywayz...

I like Vulcan's entry because it has 10 more gigs of space, wireless-g, usb 2.0, a bigger and better screen/display, that friggin kewl ass LID thingie on the cover and has a better form factor

anyone else wanna weigh in?

Personnaly I favor the one that actually gets into production.

I am definitely waiting for the Flipstart. The OQO looks like a great machine for portable media content (playing movies, listening to MP3s), but I think the Flipstart is closer to an actual laptop replacement. It's all about the layout.

sorry, posted this topic in the wrong forum. should of went to handtops.com. my bad forum admins

actually, here's sumthin' related... what will this mean for portable devices like MP3 players, portable media players and specifically Pocket PCs?

I mean, I alreadly thought about selling my e805 and Nomad Zen to help fund the FlipStart. Am I jumping the gun here?

If you've looked at other threads on this topic, you'll see a variety of opinions. For some people, something like the OQO or FlipStart is a viable alternative and they may switch over as soon as possible.

For other people, the main concern is "instant-on" access to contacts, etc, which the FlipStart does seem to help with.

For still other people, this kind of device is more powerful than they need to carry around in a pocket/purse/whatever.

And others yet want something as powerful as they can get, but within a very very small size, where the size is the limiting factor (ie, "no bigger than a 41xx!").

Plus, do you want to carry this around at the gym? Dedicated media players aren't going to go away as long as they're significantly smaller or cheaper. A lot more people want those than want PDAs or mini-laptops.

Unless Sharp come up with a super powerful Zaurus, I plan on getting a Flippystart at some point. I've read that Linux can be installed on it which would make it a great little device.

Would you then lose the benefit of the lid thing?

when it comes to mobility, i'd prefer a device running windows mobile .NET and a device having solid state storage, not hard drive based like sigmarion.
i dont expect to do all the work as my desktop computer so windows CE would be smaller enough to fit in my jacket pocket

I'd rather take a Flipstart then the OQO. Although I won't buy any in the future unless they are cheep like under $1000.
