SMS to GSM

Is anyone able to help with a little problem I am having? My sister in England is trying to send text messages to me here in the USA. Her cell phone uses GSM and my cell uses SMS. Sprint, whom I am with, says it can't be done, but I am still hopeful that there might be a way.

I would be grateful for any help or any ideas on other ways we can text each other.

The problem is that the two carriers may not have set up a relationship to enable intercarrier SMS messaging across the continent.

The workaround is to use email-over-SMS. I'm assuming your sister can SMS to an email address with her phone (most phones, and most carriers, can do it). If she can, she should try yourtelephonenumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com (that's what it was years ago, it might have changed, you'll have to check) from her phone. Essentially, it does SMS-to-email-to-SMS on your phone.
