Hi!

I am trying to connect to the internet on my imate using cellular line as my modem. i have entered all the settings and the phone no. and so on but on opening Internet explorer and clicking on a link I get a message (after saying Connecting....) "No modem found at the (ISP) no."

How can I connect? I do not have GPRS access at the moment.

Cheers

Do you know if your wireless carrier supports it? Some carriers here in North America (most notably AT&T) do not. I haven't tried CSD dialup in years, myself.

Thank you for your comment.

I will find out whether my carrier supports it or not. However, when I dial the dialup no. manually (from the phone keypad) I can hear the other modem responding by tones. Does this mean that I can connect using the imate or does it still require carrier support?

Thanks

That's not enough -- you're just making a voice call, which the cell phone will support by definition. :(

Mind you, this is only a guess as to what the problem is. It's entirely possible your carrier supports CSD. In the old days, they all did, since GPRS was nonexistent. However, some of them are turning it off to promote GPRS use instead now. It's also worth pointing out GPRS is so much faster than CSD that you'd find it much more useable (you're talking around ~40-50kbps as opposed to ~9.6kbps) -- but, of course, it depends on your budget and how much GPRS costs with your carrier.
