View Full Version : Password hang on 4150 - screen flicker & requires soft reset

I have my 4150 setup to prompt for a 4-digit password on power up, or after 15 minutes.

On what appears to be a random basis, I power up the unit, it prompts for the PIN, and after entering the correct PIN, the screen flickers continuously such that only a soft reset will fix it. After the soft reset completes, it prompts for the password again and all is OK.

Note that the screen flicker is not the same as the side-to-side motion you get when you enter an incorrect password.

I've tried to recreate the problem by setting the PIN timer to zero and powering off and on multiple times, but no luck.

I need to pay more attention, but it may be happening mostly first thing in the morning - perhaps Outlook is screwing things up when it wakes up at midnight to do it's diary/reminder stuff?

Either that or perhaps a conflict with other software - I have Battery Pack Pro 1.1 installed.

Anybody else out there seen this problem?

Cheers
Tony

I haven't heard of this before, but it might be easy to isolate. Simply uninstall Battery Pack and see what happens. If this does happen on your first attempt of the day, it might be related to the midnight wake-up.

One morning try to hit the soft reset button instead of turning your device on and see what happens.

Yep, i have seen this. Exactly the same sympthoms you describe. I have no idea whats causing it. But one thing is for sure, its not batterypack, as i never had that installed on mine (buggy, batterydrain etc)

WillyG, Good to hear somebody else is having the same problem. Given Battery Pack is not installed on your unit, I'd like to check whether we have any other 3rd party products installed in common. Below is a list of what I have, any hits?

Hardware: 256MB SD
Software:
Resco File Explorer v5
StopTime 1.0
CityTime 1.7.5
eDictionary 3.2
iPAQ Backup 2.1.3 (not setup for automatic backups)
DateCalcCE
MxConverter v1
PocketTV 0.14.3
WiFiFoFum 0.3.1
Tombo 1.8.1
VxIPConfig & VxUtil 0.9.5

I also have this problem. Searched endlessly for a solution.

Only third party app in common with TDR is Resco File Explorer v5 .
I also experienced this problem without password startup.
128MB Lexar SD
ROM V.1.00.07.

I'm hoping it goes away with ROM V.1.00.14.

Well, it has taken about 2 months for the problem to re-appear, and it happened in the middle of the day yesterday. I upgraded to ROM level 14 several weeks ago and figured the problem may have gone away with the upgrade plus the updating/reloading from scratch the rest of the software. No cigar I'm afraid.

I think I've narrowed down the problem - the password hang happens when I have Outlook reminders firing. Anybody else notice this?

TDR,

I think you are correct.

Ever since I installed Pocket Informant, I have not experienced the problem. But it has only been 2 months.
