Hi ppl,

I phoned Friday a bit around around for an E800 came to the fiollowing findings. First I called Toshiba Belgium direct. They didn't literally confirme that they were leaving the PDA market but they did confirm that the E800 BT model is definitly "end-of-live". The Wifi-model remains in their product catalogue (for now) so is the E750 Wifi aparantly??

Next call was with the most important distributor for Toshiba products (a company called Silicon Technology). They confirmed me that Toshiba is leaving (or left) the PDA market indeed. They even claimed that the press was notified of this last month. As it stands Toshiba will concentrate on their laptop range and not on PDA's anymore. They did asure me that if I wanted an E800 (now) I could still get them.

Next call was with techdata (major distributo in both Holland and Belgium. They did not confirm nor deny Toshiba's departure. They did tell me that the E800 BT was not available anymore and that there will be some promotions with E800 Wifi models (There'll be a free Toshiba expansion pack which consist o/t VGA/USB hostport expansion).

So... who's next?

This is not true. That said, we posted the rumors to our frontpage a few days ago.

Toshiba certainly hasn't released new PDAs for a while, which would lend credence to the theory they've given up on the market. However, it has not been announced via official channels, so we're up in the air for now. :|

Just a theory, but to my mind Toshiba's free release of the WM2003 SE upgrade for the e800 might support that they are getting out of the market.

Then, would you advise that I get an e805, or not, since Toshiba will not support it any longer?

Well, even if they don't leave the market, they'll stop supporting it as soon as they come out with a new model, as shown by their history with previous models. Remember the e740? (not to mention all the unhappy e3xx owners out there). I'd stay away from Toshiba for PDAs.

Depends on what you mean by support. They'll probably provide technical support, but not upgrade support, even if they quit the business. That said, I'm not sure how much upgrade support one'd get anyway beyond an SE release.

Agre with Janak on this one.

Anyway the E800 is still a fine machine. So either decide to grab'em while you can or otherwise just wait a little longer as and when the other players release their new high-end models.
