2215 decided to act up. Turn on: red X start menu cannot be found. make sure path and filename are correct, etc. soft resets don't change problem. i'm guessing ROM got lost? is a hard reset my only option, or can i try a lesser alternative?? thank you for help.

in the case of a ROM failure, hard reset wont correct your problem eighter.
it is equal to formatting your harddisk and installing windows from the beginning on your desktop.
you should try hard-reset, then if the problem continues( i bealive this will solve your softwere based problem) then this means you have a ROM malfunction

Unless you have flashed your ROM, it's unlikely you have a failure that a hard-reset wouldn't resolve. :) Good luck, and make sure to back up everything first!

hard reset worked as advertized: machine like new. start-up folder is now found again.
