Hey, I am new to these handhelds and a little bit confused by the terminology. I have an iPAQ h5550 and is this the same as a Pocket PC?
Are the terms used interchangeably? Very confusing. I am trying to identify software that is compatible with my iPAQ but usually find on "Pocket PC" listed.
Also, I had a major problem with my SD memory card having memory gobbled by something and I had to purchase 3rd party software to format my SD's to restore the original memory. My iPAQ h5550 DOES NOT HAVE a formatting utility that I can find.

The iPAQ h5550 is one of many handhelds running the Pocket PC operating system, and is considered "a Pocket PC", much like a Tungsten T is considered a Palm, because it runs PalmOS.

Software that's compatible with Pocket PC 2002/2003 (the latter sometimes called "Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC") should work, and most Pocket PC 2000 software should work as well. The designation works like Windows on your desktop.

Correct. :( If you have a desktop SD reader, you can use it to reformat the card as well...

Thanks, Janak, for a reply to my post about what my iPAQ h5550 is called when looking for software ... for compatibility.
If you have a detailed reference to moving files to the Pocket PC and/or installing new programs and the best primer for AutoSync, then please send me a reference or point me to a location/source.
Thanks.

Well, there might be ActiveSync tutorials on the web; try a Google search. Moving files to the device, though, is pretty easy. Once you're "connected", simply click Explore in ActiveSync or go to the Mobile Device icon in My Computer.
As for installing programs, 99% of the time they'll be in an self-installer format that you run on your desktop, and they'll automatically launch the ActiveSync Add/Remove Programs applet which copies over the program to the Pocket PC. It's pretty straightforward. :)
