If I get a wifi dongle for my PC/laptop, will I be able to connect a Dell axim to the internet with relative ease?

If I can.. what will be distance I can use the ppc from the base station?

In theory, yes - you should be able to set up an Ad Hoc network. Which Axim do you have? Some of them have built-in WiFi, and depending on the construction in your house/office, you should get up to several hundred feet (although, it may be less if you have dense/steel walls).

However, I suggest you instead get a wireless router/firewall -- then, hook up your PC to one of the Ethernet ports on it, and configure your Axim to connect to it. While this won't affect range, the price will be similar and the wireless network will still work if your computer is off. Plus, you get a hardware firewall to boot. :)
