Sitting staring at me as I type is my boss'es very dead ipaq 5455. The situation is that when he puts it in the cradle it will charge up to about 60% no more and then once take off the power it just dies. The device is less than 12 months old but it has been sitting in a draw unused and unpowered for about 3 months.

My first instinct was that the battery had simply died, but then I read something about the battery charging software on the 54xx series sometimes needing to be "re-initiated". Getting a new battery for this series seems suprisingly difficult in Ireland. I can get one from the UK, but it seems ridiculously expensive (over €110 when you add in postage).

Just wondering if anybody has any ideas about the software issue and whether that might be the cause of the problem.

try a hard reset for s**ts and giggles? If not, you've got 5 days for this, but I don't know if it is what you need

Thats the wrong battery, its for the Compact Flash Expansion Pack Plus & PCMICA expansion pack plus.

I'd just buy a new battery, it will last longer than a second hand one off ebay

Just to put some "closure" :D on this thread I will just report that I have managed to get the iPaq in question back up and running without resorting to a new battery.

Thanks to a couple of tips from the forums at Dave's Ipaq (http://davesipaq.com/forum/index.php), especially here (http://davesipaq.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-3003.html) I managed to "re-initiate" the iPaq's battery management software and then installed the latest ROM and firmware updates. Now it seems to be working better than ever and my boss is a very happy man - which is good for me!
