MS Triage Technology Features Flying Photos

The interface uses the power of your 3D graphics card to do the heavy lifting, so photos fly around the screen at high speed and in a intuitive manner. The video is really worth a look to get an idea of the sort of things that should be coming down the development pipeline.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/Triage.jpg" /> <br /> <br />The video also shows photos being tagged and sent to a Pocket PC in real time. This interface is fast &amp; fun and I look forward to using it (or something very much like it) at some point soon.

I posted this on Digital Media Thoughts already, but I'll say it again here... this technology is amazing! The animations are being used for something useful. Also, the image clustering really adds a whole new dimension in sorting photos. I might actually use the "keyword" feature.

On the other hand, I don't think this technology will be introduced in Windows anytime soon, considering Windows XP's complete lack of true graphics Quartz-like processing. I think we'll only see this in Longhorn.

I've never really thought about it before, but this could be very helpful. With the growth of digital photography and availability of huge hard drives, we're going to have to get some kind of better cataloging technologies.

IF it can take the functionality of Adobe's Photoshop Album and improve on it, it will be an awesome program. I actually do tag each photo individually. (Well, I can select groups of photos and tag them, but you get the idea...) Tagging everything from one day would be very bad for me. I'm loving it because I've got all these categories, and I can find exactly what I want with a few mouse clicks. I hope to be a biology professor one day, or work in a biology related field, and having my pictures well organized will be essential.

I did love the way that MS's program showed an enlarged image in real time as you moused over a thumbnail. That's good use of graphics power. I'm not as sure about the stacked row of a photos... I'd rather see them in a grid layout.

For anyone needing to organize their pictures, I would highly recommend Adobe Photoshop Album. Even better: they give away a free version which is much more functional than I thought it would be. (Sure, I ended up buying the full version - cause the software's that good, but the free version will do the job quite well too).

Ditto on posting my view to Digital Media Thoughts. To me, this looks like an updated interface to MS Digital Image Library 9. I currently use that program for organizing my digital photos, but I think adding the new interface will make it that much better.

Basically, I am a M$ zombie: when they come out with a new interface for software I already have, I usually ending spending more money... :frusty:

I just can't get into Zoombrowser. It came with my Canon S30 a few years ago and I have the latest version with my Pro1. However, it just does not remember settings and isn't very...... powerfully & elegant.

Toxostoma, what is it that you particularly like about Adobe's Photoshop Album? Do you find it that much better than ASeeDC etc.? I'm still looking for a better photo organiser.

The thing about Triage that I really like the look of, is that it looks like it can transfer pictures to PPCs easily. I hope that they have an automatic copy and resizing option to make things easy. I.e. you tag your photos and it automatically manges a copy, resizes it to VGA and then copies the photos across to your PPC media folder on your SD/CF card. One can hope that what it will do anyway.....
