All gone...
The link you followed to create a Gmail account has already been used to create an account for *****@gmail.com. Now, its account creating powers are all gone. To create another Gmail account, you'll need a shiny new account creation link. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Yup, it would only work once. :-)

How does one make such a link?

Gmail users can invite other Gmail users to join. There's an "Invite a friend" link in Gmail up near the top.

Here's another one, single-use only:

There was something wrong with the link you followed to get here. You might try copying the entire link and pasting it into your browser's address bar. If that doesn't work and you'd still like to sign up for Gmail, you'll need a new account creation link. We apologize for the inconvenience.
If you've already created a Gmail account, go to http://gmail.google.com to log in.

I have GMail, but I can only put in names and email addresses in the invite box, whereupon GMail emails the desired person with instructions on account activation. There's nothing about making public invitation links.

You can invite yourself. Then copy the link from your invitation message and post.

Assuming you actually get the email. I've done this twice and not gotten it twice. I emailed tech support and no reply since Friday.

Check your spam folder. There are reports that Gmail invitations are filtered and regarded as SPAM by some email providers.

Look in your Sent Items folder - the invite mail is placed in there. :)
That said, I don't think I'd expect inviting oneself on Gmail to work. I'd deliberately turn off that functionality to accidentally avoid wasted invites. Why don't you send it to yourself at a different address? ;)
