The program will also help you to find out that so far Spain, Russia, Croatia, Switzerland, Italy and Bulgary didn't go through to the quarter finals, and today Latvia and of course Germany won't make it there either.<b>*</b> The program uses the Macromedia Flash Player 6.0 of which you should install the latest build, since earlier builds contained some bugs that prevented this from working right. The program is available in Portuguese and English, it is free, and can be downloaded from <a href="http://www.pcdebolso.com/pcdb/downloads.asp?id=2">PCdeBolso.com</a>.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/marlof-june04-eurodebolso2004.jpg" /><br /><br /> <span><b>*</b> Although in all honesty I'm sorry to say that my country, The Netherlands, are a good candidate for dropping out; what can I say, at least we qualified this time, and according to some we were Robbed by our own coach...</span>

During the last week we got numerous requests for the "Pocket Euro" to be translated to other languages.
Although this is not our main goal, here it is a new version, improved and fixed, that we hope you enjoy.
With this little app ( just 250k ) you can record the results of different games and follow up the championship progress.
This application continues to be totally freeware and to be distributed in modules.
In this version you´ll continue to be able to register the results, or you can proceed to the auto update thru the internet if you wish, or play the first of the 3 games to be available.

Although I translated it, I have no idea about the last part of the last sentence ( I just woke up, my brain is in power saving mode )

It appears that the program requires Macromedia Flash Player 6 for Pocket PC 2003 to run. I found it at: http://www.macromedia.com/software/flashplayer/pocketpc/2002.html

Otherwise it looks to be a neat little program for us football fans.

"The program will also help you to find out that so far Spain, Russia, Croatia, Switzerland, Italy and Bulgary didn't go through to the quarter finals, and today Latvia and of course Germany won't make it there either."
No quite. Germany will surely advance to the next round by beating Czech Republic 2:0.[/quote]

Thanks, very good little utility.
As for Netherlands' run... yeah, I feel bad voor Oranje but what can you do, at least they weren't monstered out as Romania's chance to qualify or at least as Italy's outing.

I guess that's why I stated that you needed the latest build of Macromedia Flash Player 6. :) Thanks for link though!

If this is no interest to you, you can simply ignore it! Remember, outside of the US, soccer is the most popular sport in the world...

It very much sucks that the Italians had to go, but in the very unfortunate event that the Germans will have to go home as well... I'll have to cheer for the Swedish!! 8O

Yup, and this event is considered to be the third largest sports event in the world, after the Olympic Games and the World Cup Soccer.

In a country of 16 million people, 10.5 million watched the last game of our national team. And that is only counting the viewers in one competiting country. Euro 2000, the last championship, drew a cumulative television audience of some 1.5 billion people (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/soccer/06/08/happy.host/).

May be this answers your question? ;)

Some how, I don't think the Italians showed their best game. I've seen two of their matches, and they somehow disappointed me. Although Cassano showed he's got great potential.

And the Germans... well.... I'm Dutch. :D

"Robbed" ... this was a good one !!!

Not to make you feel bad, but I think Czech Republic and England are doing it VERY FINE. Hope they clash in a game, hope they'll do in the final game, though I don't know if they can get into the final without clashing each other in semifinals.

Portugal!

Soccer is the third biggest sport in the world behind the Olympic games I've read. North Americans know nothing except hockey and football, oh ya and some watch basketball and baseball. Most of us Westerns think nothing happens outside of this continent. Get a life.

Now if I would have said that, the poor person would probably have been totally confused! :silly:

Anyway, in my house, it's "Fútbol"!

You don't make me feel bad. Even more than a supporter of my national team, I'm a supporter of a good soccer match. And my favorites -based on the plays so far- are Portugal, England and the Czech Republic. Tonight will be a great match: Portugal-England. If England wins, they'll have to beat the winner of Sweden-Netherlands (played next saturday) in the semi final on June 30 to go to the final. For the Czechs, they'll have to beat Denmark next Sunday, and then beat the winner of France-Greece (played on July 1), to go to the final. That final will be played on the Fourth of July. :)

Now, that's not entirely true. :) It's more accurate to say we know squat about the European soccer leagues, but we do have our own Major League Soccer here and there are diehard fans of them. In fact, the US soccer team is better than it has been in years. Certainly not #1 internationally, but interest is slowly growing in the sport here. The women's team's success has also helped.

And, if you want to be accurate, hockey is big in Canada, but not nearly so in the US -- football, baseball, and basketball are much bigger. Especially now, when baseball is the predominant sport because football, basketball and hockey have finished for the year (i.e., my kind of time. ;))

It's too bad for England but Portugal played them hard, they deserved it. We even had this british bloke cheering for his team in our house. He's lucky we didn't kick him out!

Portugal 2 x 2 England

Then Portugal goes ahead on shots from penalty marker.

Good for 'em. How can Ericsson expect to play 120 mins to keep 0 x 0 right into penalty shots??? For that was what they did. They deserve the outcome.

I can't believe that Bekham missed that first one, way over the net. I liked the game, it was the best so far in this euro. The whole house was shaking here with british and portugese fans!

That was the only thing he was missing to do for rounding up a bad cup for him. I even told just before, "he's gonna fail it.............I told you".

My british friend said the same thing, he knew that Beckham would just foul up when it came down to it. It's too bad, but I need that rush today from that game!

Easy for you to say now that England has lost! Your avtar said UK, so I'm assuming you're a big England fan. I know it's a game, and I understand how we get crazy with hockey here, but I'm not a big fan. I enjoy other sports too, but this soccer game was the best, ever in this euro. It's good to get excited about things once in awhile, why live then?

As the talk show I listen to introduces, "El Futbol es más que un juego. Es pasión y religión. Es el arte hecho deporte" (Football is more than a game. It is passion and it is religion. It is art turned into sports)

Nope, I said that all along. Look back a page where I said in Dutch that I don't like football - or any sports really, come to that.

I'm British, not English. Born in England, Welsh Mother, Scottish Father, Norther Irish wife, lived in Scotland & England. I'm from the UK.

Yup, just like the old quote (http://www.creativequotations.com/tqs/tq-football.htm). :)

Football isn't a matter of life and death - it's much more important than that.

So, if England loses but Eyre wins, or if Eyre loses but then Wales wins (tough call this one  ), or if Wales loses but then Scotland wins...

Alright, last year I went to Barcelona and, when I asked custom's inspector at the airport who won Barza-Sevilla match, he told me, "I don't know. I don't like football" 0X
