Under a grant from the National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke, Active Signal Technologies, Linthicum, MD, and Mink Hollow Systems, Highland, MD, are developing a portable, noninvasive PDA-based instrument for EMS first responders to assess a patient’s neurological condition and provide early detection of traumatic brain injury (TBI), as well as diagnosis and differentiation of stroke subtype.</i> The choice for a Pocket PC was made over a laptop <i>because MedEvac and ambulance environmental constraints prevent bulky laptop use in transit and during prehospital treatment, where space and usability are at a premium.</i><br /><br />So there's an iPAQ that could possibly save your life. This is what Symbol Pocket PCs are for though. Much more rugged and I suspect they have one that accepts a PCMCIA card in their arsenal.

My thoughts exactly. My comments weren't targeted at the usability of this application/additional hardware, but only at the iPAQ that features their images. :)

This is what Symbol Pocket PCs are for though. Much more rugged and I suspect they have one that accepts a PCMCIA card in their arsenal.
None of the Symbol Pocket PCs (http://www.symbol.com/products/mobile_computers/mobile_ce_ppt2700.html) that I checked seemed to have a PC Card slot. Of course, it's possible that I missed one -- I didn't check the ones with scanners.

However, the TetraPad rugged Pocket PC (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=28994) reported on here last week has a PC Card slot. Of course, I wonder how many iPAQs you can get for the cost of one of those. :-D
