I haven't read through all the documents also but one thing I noticed on the user manual (pg 17/faq E)... there is a current issue where the Pocket PC will not "wake up" (turn ON) if the PPC is switched OFF while the session for the keyboard is ON. They said that in order to solve this, it is necessary to upgrade the "IPAQ ROM Version" (link to HP website provided). Sad to say... it seems like this is just for iPaq Pocket PC's. :-(

Yes! A five-row BT keyboard!

Hmm.. I"m not sure if I like the fact that the Pocket PC would be offcenter when placed in the holder. Has anyone ever used an "off-center" keyboard like this one? Is the difference noticeable?

Personally, I always place my monitor a wee bit to the left of the middle. I find it more comfortable that way.

Soooo... now we have three different mobile bluetooth keyboards all from ThinkOutside, Noka and HP! 8O Now, this is making it hard to choose... :D ... unless, someone forgets to make regional European keyboards -- then I will not be anything near happy!

Does anyone know if the Logitech or Microsoft Bluetooth keyboards can be used with any Pocket PCs? Are there any BT drivers out there that could do this?

My only reservation about this keyboard is that it's made by HP. Nothing wrong with HP mind you, but I suspect this keyboard won't receive the same level of "universal" support that equivalent keyboards from ThinkOutside or Targus would receive. Of course if BT is implemented the way it should be, it shouldn't matter, but experience tells me different...

Looks ugly, but functional. Hopefully with competition we may have a chance of getting a BT keyboard at a decent price. Can only hope...

Rest assured that they will "forget"!

We just have to wait 2 years for Paragon (http://pocket-pc-software.penreader.com/InterKey.html) or SunnySoft (http://www.sunnysoft.cz/en_clanek.php?clanekid=132) to make an overlay.

I know this is a very personal thing, but I for one really like the "look" of this keyboard. Very professional lookin as you would expect from HP.

I am interested that the stand looks like it will also support the PPC in Landscape mode - something that when combined with VGA resolution would make for an excellent wordprocessing platform.

With all these BT keyboards starting to pop up, it would appear that my next PPC is just going to have to be one with BT.

Ahhh, four, actually if you count the BT FrogPad. Of course, the FrogPad takes some time getting used to, and I don't see wide scale adoption. But it IS cool.

Nope, not withouth proper drivers anyway... I've got a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard which will not function with my iPAQ since there isn't support for it in the Bluetooth stack.

Wasn't Bluetooth supposed to be universal?
I would cancel my order with ThinkOutside and wait for the number row, if I knew this would be compatible with my e800.
What to do?

My understanding with Bluetooth was that there were a number of 'profiles' that existed - as long as the two devices both supported the same profile, they should work, right? I agree that the troubleshooting in the manual certainly seems to be HP-centric, though.....

I liked the look of this keyboard for two reasons - number row keys in a reasonably compact form factor, and a locking pin to allow typing on your lap (yes!) or other unstable surfaces. That and the fact that the PDA support is simple enough that the pda could be set in portrait or landscape mode makes this look like a nice solution.

Like others, though, I sure hope that this is not some proprietary kludge that will restrict this to iPaq's only. While I currently own an iPaq, I was hoping to get to the point where I didn't have to replace all of the accessories every time I upgraded.......

No, it was ment to be a "wire replacement", and to remove some of the tangles of wires we have today. However, ThinkOutside does include the keyboard profile for their keyboard for all (?) Bluetooth Pocket PCs, so don't cancel your order just yet! ;)

The reaility of Bluetooth and the promise of Bluetooth have been two different things.

Does anyone known how much power drain occurs when using a bluetooth keyboard, as compared to the serial-connection keyboard? The BT keyboard itself does not draw power unlike the serial keyboard, but having he BT on may consume even more power.

Thinking of getting a BT keybooard for my 2210 instead of a serial keyboard.

My Stowaway XT broke recently, and I use it so frequently that I couldn't wait the month or two until the Bluetooth keyboard comes out. I was tempted, until four things occurred to me:

1) The devices are sitting right next to each other anyway, so I don't really get the big advantange (assuming I can make my iPAQ last the way I'm trying to, and not replace it for something with a different connector soon).
2) I'd have to tell the iPAQ to see the keyboard every time I used it, which is annoying, compared to just dropping it onto a peg.
3) Battery life would drop considerably.
4) I wouldn't be allowed to use it on planes, or shouldn't be according to the current take on radio devices, though the air-staff would probably be oblivious.

What really clinched it for me, though, is that ThinkOutside were having a half-off sale, making the XT $39, versus the $140 for the Bluetooth model.

I've got a couple questions for you guys:

1. Would you be interested in a Pocket PC Bluetooth driver that allows you to use the Microsoft BT Keyboard and Mouse with a Pocket PC?

2. How much would you pay for something like this?

Hopefully, the PDA's back-support pivots backwards for a more comfortable viewing angle of the screen.

Also, a minor concern: Oriented in landscape mode, the PDA's screen corners would be partially masked by the depth of the keyboard -- potentially obscuring Excel cells. Mind you, propping it up with a small stack of pennies may do the trick ;)
