You can use IR I think. I used to use it to sync. my old PDA to my home laptop because all I needed to sync. was MS Money. That was before I started using a cable.

Thanks a lot... but what i'm really trying to do is to save some money from buyng a router... my buddy's laptop has wifi (G) built in and and his PPC also has wifi (B)...

i also need to know if it's possible to transfer files this way too, and browse the internet... a direct wifi (from G to B and B to G) connection for the 2 devices is what i need... if possible...
any other sugestions?
Thanks.

Wi-Fi can work in 2 modes (actually there are more, but they aren't relevant here): _infrastructure_ mode, in which the endstations talk to an Access Point; and _ad hoc_ mode, where the endstations talk directly to each other without an AP -- sorta like bluetooth.

So what you'll need to do is configure each device to permit ad hoc mode as well as infrastructure mode, and set the same SSID in each. It would also be an idea to configure some encryption....

Then you'll have to set IP addresses, 'cos there won't be a DHCP server, making sure they're in the same network address range.

Once you've got the TCP/IP connection working (test by pinging one from the other), and assuming you've already established a sync partnership via USB or serial, you can sync wirelessly without an AP. Sounds like a bit of work, but I do it myself when travelling.

Good luck
