If you're closely watching this unit, go take a peek. 8)<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/parekh-20040617-iPAQ6300.jpg" /><br /><br />You can also get an English translation of the article <a href="http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A//www.pocketpcitalia.com/recensioni/hardware/ipaq_6300.asp">here</a>.

You can poke your eye out with that thing if you're not careful.

Comparitively speaking, the MDA III is looking better and better...

I don't know if it would fit in my eye.

Better fit some wheels to the cradle and use it as a kick-step

Anyone notice of the 8 devices discussed in june so far, 5 were PPCPE. I think they are taking over....

One of the things that really bummed me out about the 6300 is that AT&T will have an exclusive on it, at least for the first 6 months.

Ya you are band to Blackberrys and they cannot hold a fire to PPC in all things save push e-mail.

Cingular, and I have no choice. Where I live, no other carrier matches their coverage.

Curious as to why HP built a new thumbboard and did not just offer an insert for the 21xx/41xx thumbboard.

I assume I will be able to use this as a Bluetooth modem. Similar to the way I use my Nokia and Sony Laptop.

Will it use AT&T's "edge" technology or the slower GPRS?

Does that case come with it?

I've been following this bugger very closely :) Actually, I think its T-Mobile that is getting it first. I've read several sources that said that. Also, what confirms it is that one of the guys that was demoing it first on one of the web sites I've seen had it operating on T-Mobile and that a T-Mobile internal tech support database had some technical support pages set up on the 6300. Besides, AT&T just got the AudioVox 4100 PPC phone. I doubt they would be getting the 6300 within a month or two of that. In addition to T-Mobile in August, HP will probably offer it unlocked (and a lot more expensive) on their own web site.

AT&T will be the first to get the new Motorola SmartPhone, the MPX220, in September-ish.

Yep, I'll second this. So far, I've read TMO to get this first in August.

There's a thread over on HowardForums where one of the Tmobile reps posted pictures of their new promotional flyers for Tmobile Data services and it clearly shows a picture of a guy using a 6300. I would post the pictures but they appear to be gone from the host. It showed a guy up in a tree with the Tmobile logo in the top left corner and he was using a 6300 with the stylus out. The rep said that the Ipaq hasn't been mentioned directly in their promo material yet, but they haven't released any new PocketPC devices recently so it seems very possible this will be there next one.

Do you really think that HP will offer this unit for sale in unlocked configuration?

Whats up with the 200 Mhz deal? Its got everything I want except a slower processor. What were they thinking? Battery life perhaps?

How am I going to watch my full frame divx movies now?

Let's not draw conclusions from the fact it's 200MHz - it's not an XScale, and anecdotal reports suggest it's actually pretty good. :)

Actually, T-Mobile has a 3-month exclusive, although it may be longer as AT&T has put the 6300 on hold for the time being (merger?).

Interesting thread. A number of comments:

-Please don't flame me, but I'd take bigger antenna and better signal strength (WLAN / GSM /BT) any day over no antenna and poor signal strength, ESCPECIALLY since this device would be my mobile phone. (I have no evidence the 6300 with its antenna actually gets better signal, its just more likely to).
-Its my understanding T-Mobile will have this phone first, although HP selling it unlocked would be nice.
-Its my understanding the case comes with it.
-I've read that, at launch the device will not be EDGE capable, but it WILL be upgradable to EDGE (somehow).
-It better be able to be used as a Bluetooth modem for a laptop.
-I'm trying to decide between the 6300 or an MPx220 and demoting my iPaq 5455 to in car GPS. I can't decide, although I'm leaning towards the MPx220, so its interesting that someone here said it will be with AT&T around September.

Battery life would be the main reason for the "slower" cpu speed. With GPRS, Bluetooth & WiFi the battery life is going to be of great concern.

I remember our company's HP rep had said (months ago) that the 6300 for T-Mobile wouldn't be EDGE compatible, but after reading that it WOULD be upgradeable on pdaPhoneHome last week, we called/asked him again. He said that there wasn't a low-voltage EDGE chipset out when they started designing the 6300, so it won't ship with EDGE or be upgradeable to EDGE. :(

My PHP 8.00 (FYI that's USD 0.14) worth :)

200Mhz CPU if it would improve battery life (staying power) then it would be ok. I don't think this is really geared towards a gaming or multimedia ppc but more of a data/communications ppc.

Size looking at the pics it is not much bigger than a h22xx which for me is a pretty compact size for what you're getting in return (4 kinds of wireless--let us not forget IR :))

OS Although a bit dissapointed that the h63xx will not be a WM2003SE device -- if putting older OS would make the device more stable (I think this is the excuse errr  ... reason hp is citing btw is WM2003 stable :?: ); hope there is a free upgrade to WM2003SE when they do fix it up for the h63xx (the OS was announced before the unit right?)

Thumboard it's great that they have it included in the package. I also think they have made it more PPCPE friendly (compared to the 41xx and 22xx Thumboard) -- it sort of looks like the HS Treo's Thumboard but it has the 'numberpad' on the right side instead of the left. I think this would be great for SMS!

The Antenna I wouldn't mind having a big antenna if it does significantly improve the wireless performance (wifi/bt/gsm+gprs) of the unit. Besides it sort of adds a 'HEY CHECK IT OUT' factor :)

The Included Carry Case It is a hell of a lot better than the nylon thingie we get with the 22xx. we can't really see much detail; but it seems to me that it would only hold the naked h63xx :(. Although it would be great if it expands to include the thumboard (personally I think I would have the Thumboard attached all the time--why? well for easier input of course; also it ain't WM2003SE so I wouldn't be using it at landscape anyway...)

The Camera ok a lot of debate has been going on re: PPCs and Cameras. For me having it built in is ok. I repeat for ME, this is ok. It is good that hp would be offering a model with it and a model without. However what is the spec on the cam; is it 1.3MP or just 0.3MP??? This would make me decide on getting it or not. If it's 1.3MP then I would get it; if its 0.3MP I would rather get a cheaper model without it, as a 0.3MP is basically worthless. Would it have a flash?

On T-Mobile and AT&T and EDGE ok all I can say is their service must be way better than what we have here locally; we don't have data plans at all (we are charge per kb)! I'll probably wait till this unit is available unlocked (open line) we don't have EDGE either (we have EDGE capable phones in the market though  )
