Well boys....im not sure, but i think its time for my baby to lay down. Like I said many a times before, its like some kind of drug, I MUST get a new ppc every summer. But this time, I feel as though its a need rather than a want. I downloaded pocket player the other day and it was running as slow as a dog. I couldn't help but think..."I bet this thing would be flying on those new 4700's." Also, I find myself multitasking a lot these days. I'll have the music going in media player, gprs connected and running aol, msn and browsing some sites (this site for the most part :) ) the inbox will be open, and then I go to play a game. That's where it aaaall goes to hell. I'd love to be able to play sim city and still have all these other things going on in the background. Does this justify my need for 4700? Does this mean my boo boo has got to back in her box? What do you guys think?

I'd wait until the 4700 is actually OUT before making that decision. ;)

Sounds as good an excuse as any (as if you would need an excuse :D ). I know that if money allows (probably not likely :( ) then I would love to put my ol' Jornada out to pasture for a HP 4700 or maybe an Asus MyPal 730
Ahhhh - just the thought is making me smile....

I suggest you start selling any extra devices or kids around the house. I have a feeling these 4700's are going to be the biggest things since....who cares....YOU GOTTAH GET ONE!

No kids to sell (damn....!) and I an't parting with my old Newton for nothing! But apart from that - everything is for sale! :devilboy:
The only thing that worries me about the 4700 is the touchpad in place of the dpad - but I will wait to see how this works in practice before making my mind up.

Well, living in nyc, train rides on the train are nothing easy. And i'll tell ya, using a ppc on a crowded train isn't too much fun, but i gottah do what i have to do. So having a stylus in those situations often feels a it clumsy. The touch pad how ever....could offer some kind of aid. Sure it might take a lot of getting use too, but i think im more likely to use the touch pad than a d pad. Think about it....much like the touch pads on our laptops, there might be an option for hot spots. Which would work nice with volume and track control in media player, as opposed to the d pad on the 2215 which was waaaay to sensitive for that....But i guess we'll have to wait and see. See....these are the things that make me think that this upgrade will be more of a need than a want. Only if my girl will buy that

Screw that, I want Toshiba to release the prototype they showed recently.
The one with the sliding screen and replaceable pads for a thumb keyboard, fingerpad, joypad or whatever else ya might want to use as an input device.

With that kind of usage pattern...I doubt a 4700 or even the upcoming Asus PPCs will be your solution. Hell I don't think full-blown PCs can handle that kind of load...unless you have a gamer PC.

it seems that your way of using ppc needs much more RAM then mine.
considering that the new devices have 128 megs of ram this could probbably solve your problem. keep in mind that the more free ram you have, the more stability. when i use gprs over BT , browse the net , listen to music and run msn, i have a very little amount of free ram.

You're right, but most of the time most of my stuff is running from the secure digital. Except for IE and media player and bt manager and msn....hmmm...sounds like you're right. lol

to solve this problem you can install as much as programs you can to SD and ipaq filestore, and free up some more ram.
after a soft reset my device uses 10 megs of program ram and 10 megs for storage. this leaves me more than 30 megs to go. i've never experienced low memory issues this way
