I just set up a wireless network at my friends house using the microsoft wireless router. I can connect to the network fine but when i am trying to connect to the internet using IE it gives me error message: the page you are looking for cannot be found. I am using an ipaq 4150. the bizarre thing is that the first time I tried this it worked great, then it just stopped and gave me that error message above. HELP PLEASE!!

Does email or ping work?
Try running "welcome.exe" (windows folder).

Well I'm having the same problem. I can tell you that it has to be the connection (or settings). I've tried signing onto MSN Messenger and it said there's no internet connection when the status bar on the top of the screen shows that it is connected to my network. I'm begining to think that it might be the router because I am also using a Microsoft MN-700 router.

I am using a Dell Axim x30 624MHz.

If anybody knows how to fix this, please tell, I'm getting worried.

i figured it out, its the setting of the router. just go into the settings and change the security encription to "none", this will allow people to link into your network but it fixed this problem temporarily for me till i figure out what to do.

We don't know the exact cause yet, but it is the PPC and not the router, this error happens most often when using active sync, this is the first time I've heard of it without AS though. You should reset or run welcom.exe in the windows folder for a temporary fix.

Edit: whoops, double post, dupe removed

Try to at least use MAC filtering. After you get settled in, add WEP and see if you still have problems.

no encryption doesn't work, and the internet is why I got this ppc. So what am I to do now? Do I return it to Dell? Or should I wait for a fix?

Does encryption work if you enable SSID broadcast?

If you don't get internet access with no WEP turned on, typically the issue is connection manager settings. It normally needs the Wireless adapter set to WORK, and then 'this network connects to the internet' set on the proxy page.

If you are getting connections with WEP turned off and not with WEP turned on, it is simply a matter of different keys. Ensure that both the Access Point and the PPC are set to either 40 bit or 128 bit encryption. Make sure that you have accurately reproduced the key that is on the AP onto the PPC. A 128 bit key is 26 hex characters long. If you are using a passphrase, I would advise against it, unless you are sure the algorithm that generates the key from it, is identical on the AP and PPC wireless hardware. I find the easiest way to make sure the key is entered correctly is to copy it into a note file, sync it to the PPC and copy it out of the note and into the WEP key for the PPC.

OK-After Resetting my router a few times, getting a new IP address, and turning off encryption, it seems to be working!

Thanks to all, and if you find a way (or if I do) on how to get it to work with WEP on, please post it.

our PPCs here (My house) were having issues with WEP as well, but that was no connection period, if you can leave on mac filtering since wep is off.

my ipaq 4150 wifi adapter is sometimes buggy; most of the time when i go into ipaq wireless and turn wifi on, it will connect itself to my network in 20-30 seconds. Then everything works fine (IE, inbox, messenger). However, there are times when i turn on wireless, the link icon on top shows connected, and all internet apps dont work at all (page cannot be found, messenger shows not connected to the internet). However one soft reset fixes the problem.

i wonder if anyone experiences this as well. thanks in advance.

Here's a screenshot of what I currently have configured, and it seems to be working quite well. I'm in a hurry so I don't have time to rotate the pic.
Edit:Rotated image.
