<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.pdamill.com/flux.shtml' target='_blank'>http://www.pdamill.com/flux.shtml</a><br /><br /></div>"Flux Challenge is our upcoming 3D racing game. This unique racer revolves around a world of magnetic-levitation tunnels. While originally designed for mass transportation, it soon spawned many underground ship-racing circuits and eventually became one of the largest international championship sports. Take control of one of these magilev ships, and become the international champion!<br /><br /> <img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/logsdon_20040531_flux.gif" /> <br /><br />This is an ALPHA version, meaning many of the game features are incomplete, others might be broken. It might not even run on all Pocket PCs, etc. Graphics, controls, sounds and many most of the other stuff will change significantly in the final version. With this in mind, I think you'll have some fun trying it."<br /><br />Kudos to PDAmill for releasing an alpha version to the public for feedback. The screenshots look very tight, and if they're using the <a href="http://www.handango.com/brainstore//PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=311&amp;jid=5X69XECFA47C29F5FECCD6C9X2D6F574&amp;platformId=2&amp;productType=2&amp;productId=90951&amp;sectionId=0&amp;catalog=30">Anthelion</a> engine, they'll get better still as the game chugs toward production. Check it out!

This looks cool! And I'm impressed that they are willing to give an incomplete version to the public! Great idea! Open your program up to millions of bug testers.

The graphics remind me of Microsoft's Hellbender...anyone remember that?

Not bad for an alpha. It even runs pretty good on my iPaq 3870. 8)

OMG lol...what a game. I used to keep my Win95 CD around just so I could play that. I should find it again sometime.

But this game didn't really remind me of that...hellbender is a hovercraft...and you're not going through a tunnel. :|

Why not? At least they say it's an alpha now, rather than actually release it, charge for it, and then based on the same feedback release "updates", as seems often the case these days...

I think the warning is clear and unambiguous. Those who download it are likely to be people who are happy to debug software or take the time to send in bug reports at least...

Good to see an upfront approach.

This really looks like Wipeout...never saw Hellbender...

I'm not saying that the game looks like Hellbender, just the graphics. It's just what came to mind when I saw the screenshots...

Back to topic, though...I can't wait to try this game. I've got a new PPC arriving in the mail tomorrow, so I'm not going to bother trying it on my current device. I'll report back tomorrow with what I think.

what ppc are you getting?

(sorry, I'm an English major...couldn't help it. )

Anyway, I'm getting an i-Mate (aka XDA II). I'm really excited about it...and it's 128MB RAM will allow me to install lots of games like this!

Whoa, touché. I stand corrected. 8)

Anyway, back to topic...sorry about that.

With everyone else saying how cool the game was, I decided to go ahead and try it on my soon to be retired device. The graphics looked cool from what I could see...but I couldn't play it.

My device, the sp230 (http://www.anextek.com/sp230.html) doesn't have any hardware buttons. And the alpha version doesn't allow you to change the controls.

I think games like this should use screen steering by default since so many devices have different button configurations.
My new i-Mate won't be able to use this either because it only has two hardware buttons.

Maybe the final version will work.

Hover was the game on the W95 CD actually :P It was on a few of the bittorrent sites a few days ago, shouldve grabbed it.

It's running on a more advanced Anthelion engine actually. I'm unsure about stylus controls so far. A bigger viewport should be available in the final version too, for the faster devices out there. Most of the programming is being done by a new fellow at PDAMill actually, doing a pretty fantastic job so far!

What's with the rolleyes? And why was me saying that it looked like Wipeout off topic? Relax.

Ah, you're right! I think both Hover and Hellbender were on there actually...I was initially thinking of Hellbender though.

(sry for not being on topic, but yeah...this is sort of all related...maybe )

What this reminds me of most is that one level from" Star Wars Episode I: Podracer"

Looks great, now if only PDAmill would finish PC version of Snails...

I'm home for an hour for lunch, and thought I'd give this game a whirl.

THOUGHTS BEFORE DOWNLOADING
-Looks like pod-racing Star Wars Episode One (I agree, kosmicki!).
-Athelion-like ships and graphics, methinks.
-Probably hard to control (especially on my X5!).

THOUGHTS AFTER PLAYING 5 MINUTES
-Once you start hitting the walls it's ("it is" ) hard to stop
-Music is pretty good. I wasn't expecting any in the alpha release.
-Course is too long - four minutes of hitting walls and being in last place
-Stable.
-Texture mapping the walls is asking too much of my older device. Those of you with the new CPUs won't have this issue, I'm guessing.
-OHH! Red bars are bad and blue ones are good! NOW you tell me!
-Can't see past the ship when on a long straight-away.
-Suprisingly good control from my X5's smushy D-PAD.
-Think StarFox.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Can't wait to see what it turns into! PDAmill is my favorite game developer, and I know they'll make improvements. Thanks for offering an alpha!
