Hi,

I'm after diary/journal software for my HP ipaq pocket PC. I just want something simple that will let me create diary entries. I would prefer that it had a password feature too.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Emma.

If it is an electronic version of a Paper diary/journal you are after you could check out Journal Pro (http://www.dsrtech.net/journal/Default.htm) from DSRTech.

I have been playing around with the trial version for the last couple of days, but still haven't made my mind up yet. It does have a lot of features I like, but I am just not sure if I would actually use it enough to purchase it.

I've owned Journal Pro for a couple of years now and I like it alot. I don't keep a regular diary, but I jot down every new development in my son's life, or any major thing happening to myself. It jumps from entry to entry, so it's fun to go back and read about what happened. It also has a desktop companion, which I like too, because I'm a fast typer.

I would give it a try, it's not very expensive and it's a very stable, useful program.

Good luck.

What good is data if it is in some strange/uncommon format? Why only live with data on your PPC? For total data ubiquity you need CLC Journal from www.crownlogic.com. It syncs with the Outlook Journal. Anything else do that? Well, PocketInformant has a plugin for sync but just try creating a freetext journal entry. Not so easy, is it?

CLC Journal. `nuff said.

I must say this is one thing that has really put me off a lot of the note taking/journal type offerings on the market at the moment. What I really want is something that has the features of a journal program (things like categories, searching etc) but with more text editing/formatting power (does anyone know if either of Jornal Pro or CLC Journal allow you to insert pictures or handwritten notes etc?).

In some ways PhatPad (http://www.paragraph.com/phatpad.html) would be the ideal solution for me - except that like so many other similiar programmes it does not allow you to mix recognised text and handwritten text/drawings/pictures etc in the same note (Any recognised text being appended as an attachment). I am beginning to wonder if this is a limitation of the underlying OS maybe....? Of course PhatPad also has the problem of not saving files in a common file format - you can export the files as jpegs or bitmaps but that is not really much good in view.

Oh well, guess I will just have to wait until MS decides to port OneNote to the PPC.... :D

I once used the trial version but couldn't really work out how to create a journal entry or how to password protect it. I'd want the journal password protected but not the calendar ect.

Can Pocket Informant journal add any/multiple categories?

Can Pocket Informant journal sort entries?

Can Pocket Informant journal filter entries?

Can Pocket Informant journal search for entries?

No, it cannot. What app can? CLC journal.

I swear, I do not work for them, know anyone at the company, nor do I get any compensation for pushing this product. I am just frustrated at the complete lack of decent software for interfacting with Outlook's journaling capabilities. Crown Logic is the only company that offers me something I can use.

Pocket Informant is a good PIM, though I prefer Agenda Fusion. But a journaling prog, it ain't. I emailed Alex about a synchronizing journaling feature way back in the day but there obviously is little demand judging by how slowly the journaling feature is advancing.

And that is unfortunate because people are really missing out if they are not taking advantage of Outlook's journal features. If Outlook Notes were a little more flexible, I'd move away from Journal altogether. But they are not flexible and so I am forced to use Outlook Journal which is more powerful.

And by Journaling, I'm not talking about silly gossip that goes on in my life... I record everything in there. I'm trying to increase my vegetable intake so I record everything I eat in CLC journal, right after my meal (for lunch breaks, at least). Business meetings are recorded in CLC Journal. Ideas for my GF's bday get captured in CLC Journal.

All of my projects have a unique category. As i add items to my daily journal that are relevant to a particluar project, I add that category to my journal. At the end of ever week when I do my reviews, I can filter, sort, and fill in any blanks very easily.

And it all gets synced to Outlook Journal at the end of every day and the backed up along with all my other files. Nothing gets lost.

CLC Journal isn't perfect (though it will be if they allow handwritten notes and drawings) but it gets the job done better than anything else out there.

And, no, unfortunatley, you cannot insert handwriting or pics in either CLC Journal or Pocket Informant journal. You lose nothing on the sync with CLC Journal though (not sure about PI Journal).

CLC Journal lets you password protect stuff. I don't use it because I password protect my entire PPC. Just FYI.

melb_angel19 wanted something simple so here it is: A Pocket Word document password protected by Resco Explorer. Make one running document with dated, daily entries, or a separate document for every day if you're a prolific writer.

If you don't already use Resco it offers a lot more function than the native File Explorer. Drag & Drop file moving, multiple file selection, encryption, etc. http://www.resco-net.com/explorer.asp $24.95.

There are even freeware encryption tools out there too.

This is exactly the solution I have ended up with. I have a folder set aside for "Journal" entries and generally stick to about one week per document. Each document is spit up by date with a range of random jottings, any picutures I might have taken with my camera phone and want to keep for future reference and pretty much anything else I might want to look back on. It is not my ideal solution by a long shot, but so far it is the best compromise I have come up with
