Hey guys, just bought an e740 off Ebay, and it seems to be in perfect condition, but the few software programs I have downloaded give the following statement when I try to run them.

"program name" is not a valid Pocket PC application.

Now, I am a complete newbie at this so I am hopefully doing something wrong. I tried several programs, MS reader and Adobe PDF reader, and copied the install file to my PDA and tried to run it from there. Is this correct? Also, I don't have any memory card installed yet if that matters.

Any help is greatly appreciated, if something is screwed I only have a few days to send it back. Thanks.

For most (but not all) software the installation is done through Activesync. First you need to have an activesync connection (it does not have to be a partnership it can be in Guest mode) between your PC an your Pocket PC. Then you run the install program on the PC and follow the prompts.

There are some programs that come as .cab files that you can copy to the PPC and then run by double tapping on them in File Explorer. The .cab file will then install the program into the default directory. There are even a few programs (particularly some smaller utility programs) that are just an .exe program that runs direct on the PPC - generally they would come with some sort of readme file to explain this.

Thanks for the reply, I figured it out eventually. It's interesting to be a newb at something again. Ok, next question, file explorer was working fine yesterday, but now won't open any files. It selects them, but doesn't seem to open them. I have tried double-tapping, etc, but it doesn't do anything. And it will select multiple files, which doesn't seem right (like holding control on a normal pc).

Any ideas? Thank.
