Hey all,
I've searched and searched these forums but couldn't find an answer to my question.
Is there any way to disable the "activesync sounds" when you click one of the wireless buttons in iPaq Wireless? The sound drives me crazy every time I hear it.
Thanks for any help!

I've got good news and bad news. :-D
The bad news is that there doesn't seem to be an event associated with the iPAQ Wireless Control for connection and disconnection. (They should probably add an event to the registry in the next release.) Without an event, you can't use the Sounds & Notifications settings applet to control the sounds.
The good news is that I've figured out how to change (and thereby eliminate) the sounds. To change the sounds, follow these steps:
Rename the Infbeg.wav and Infend.wav files in the \Windows folder to InfbegOrg.wav and InfendOrg.wav. (If your file explorer won't allow renaming ROM files, copy them to a temporary directory, rename them there, then copy them back to the \Windows folder.)
Go into the Sounds & Notifications settings applet and change any events using Infbeg and Infend to InfbegOrg and InfendOrg, respectively. (These will probably be the ActiveSync: Begin sync, ActiveSync: End sync, Connection disconnected and Connection established events.)
Copy the WAV files you want to use for the iPAQ Wireless Control to the \Windows directory.
Rename the WAV files you just copied to Infbeg.wav and Infend.wav.
The iPAQ Wireless Control should now be using the new WAV files, while other events still have the same sounds they used to.
To actually eliminate the sounds, you'll need an empty WAV file (one with a zero-length duration, if possible, or silence for as short a time as possible).

Thanks for your help Pony! I appreciate it..
I'm having trouble with the steps you told me to do. I did everything you said, and now in my Windows directory, I have 4 files (Infbeg, InfbegOrg, Infend, and Infendorg). When I play these files from within Resco Explorer, the Infbeg and Infend files play the ones I copied over.
However, iPaq Wireless still plays the Activesync sounds. Also, in the Sounds & Notifications panel, I tried playing "Infbeg" and "Infold," and the old sounds played (not the new). It's as if the iPaq is looking at the old ROM files instead of the new files. I guess there's no way I can delete those old Inf* files from the ROM?
I also wanted to say that I did soft reset, and the problem is still there.

I had performed the steps I told you and successfully changed the iPAQ Wireless Control's connection sound (I only changed Infbeg.wav). You do have the .wav extensions on those files, right?
One other thing to check is to see if your iPAQ actually uses the Infbeg and Infend sounds for the iPAQ Wireless Control. My iPAQ 5550 does, but maybe your iPAQ doesn't. Search the \Windows folder for all WAV files and see if there are any that sound like they might be used by the iPAQ Wireless Control.
As for deleting the old files from ROM, you're correct -- there's no way to do that. (Well, no simple way -- you could generate a new ROM image without them, but you'd need to be a major hacker. :-D)

Yeah, the filenames do end in .wav. It's weird, though, because even the Sounds & Notifications play the "activesync" sound for Infbeg and Infend rather than the new sound.
Oh well.. I guess I'll just have to live with it. There's no alternative way of turning on and off WiFi, is there? I know you can from the connection notification box, but that's only after you've turned on WiFi once with iPaq Wireless.

Did you search the \Windows folder for other WAV files? Maybe there are other files that play the same sounds as infbeg.wav and infend.wav but have different names.

There's no way that I know of.
