If by "built in programs" you mean things like Pocket Outlook, Pocket Word/Excel etc. (ie: programs that are installed in the iPaqs ROM) then the quick answer is You Can't.

If, however, you mean programs that might have been pre-installed in the devices RAM when you purchesed it (not sure what they might be on the iPaq, but I know my Jornada had things like MS Money preinstalled) you should be able to remove them from the remove programs applet in Settings. Of course it might be that HP has included some of these apps actually in the device ROM in which case the first scenario applies - they are there for good! [/i]

As uMP2k said, there's no simple way to remove programs from ROM. If you have awesome skills, you might be able to edit the ROM image, delete the programs, then reflash the ROM image, but that's probably not likely.

If you just want to enable your iPAQ to run only your program, you don't need to remove any programs. You can try a kiosk program, like the Spb Kiosk Engine (http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/kioskengine/?en).

Actually, some people (http://www.xda-developers.com) do (at least on Phone Edition devices). They have a concept called a "kitchen", which basically allows you to specify what you want in the ROM and then generates a custom ROM for you.

I haven't heard of anything similar to this for any other Pocket PCs, although there's a thread at pocketnow (http://www.pocketnow.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14619) on how to dump the iPAQ 2210 ROM. There's even a tool posted there to help modify the bootscreen and logo.

Hey, speak for yourself! I have two degrees in Computer Science and 18 years experience (http://resume.svpocketpc.com) programming mainframes and PCs. I think I'm a "real programmer"; I just don't hack that low in a system.
