Ok, so as a followup to my previous topic about my dream PPC, I thought I'd post what I envision as the "perfect PPC day":

7:00am - PPC alarm wakes me up by streaming my "wakeup" playlist from my media server. After briefly considering throwing it against a wall (naw, never with my PPC!), I glance over to it's extra-bright screen to see that it's going to be a sunny 75 degrees today.

7:30am - Eating breakfast, I flip out the built-in pictureframe-like stand, set the PPC on the table in front of me, and catch up on the morning news. I request, "next story please..." - it obeys.

8:00am - Stuck in traffic. My PPC's GPS detects that I've been sitting at the same point for over 5 minutes, and the car is still running, so it begins to look for alternative routes, downloading the latest traffic flow data and crash reports. It interrupts the eBook it's been reading me when it has a new route planned.

8:15am - Pull up to work, my PPC detects the WiFi connection at my office and begins automatically sync'ing my inbox.

9-12 - Meetings. Drat, I hate my job. But trusty PPC is there for me, providing diversions in the form of various games, e-mail, an eBook or two, etc.

12:00 - Lunchtime. I go for a job, PPC clipped to my belt. PPC plays my "jogging" playlist ("It's the... eye of the tiger...")

12:30 - Back in the office. I sync the Powerpoint deck for my next meeting and head over to building 642. In the shuttle on the way, I review the deck and make some mental notes about questions I want to ask.

1:30pm - Phone rings, no wait... it's my PPC! My 1 yr old daughter is walking! My wife holds her PPC up and streams me video of the first steps. I record the feed to watch over and over again later.

2:00pm - A client comes to view our proposal for some consulting work. Duly impressed by our GQ (gadget quotient) when he sees my PPC. BT's me his card, and signs the proposal on his PPC before BT'ing it to me too.

2:37pm - I get a notice that the necklace auction I bid for on eBay is about to close. I'm still with the client, but I quickly sneak in a winning bid and daydream briefly about the look on her face...

3:00pm - Leaving early to coach my son's little league team. Listen to some more eBook on the way to the field. Keep track of stats during the game, even take snapshots of the kids and print out some "baseball cards" for them as rewards for good hits/catches from my mobile photo printer.

5:00pm - Practice is over. Tap / Click / order some Papa Johns pizza as I leave the parking lot, pick it up on the way home.

9:00pm - It's Thursday... Good TV night. Use the PPC to turn on the TV, dim the lights, close the curtains, adjust the temperature, and settle in for a movie.

11:00pm - Show's over. Slot the PPC in its charger, head to sleep. Tomorrow is Groundhog Day...[/b]

Those are some good thoughts...although I think you're closer to Star Trek than you are to present day. :D

We'll be there eventually, however. And very good writing, by the way!

Oh, and "Good TV" night on Thursday starts at 8...gotta' watch Survivor! 8)

Thanks! I really don't think this is too far off. The GPS/traffic thing could be done fairly easily with a CarPC, the bluetooth/car chip interface, MapPoint and any bluetooth GPS receiver. Anyone want to start a project? :)

What we really need is ubiqutous high bandwidth wireless access. At that point, I should be able to watch Good TV Night from anywhere by streaming the video feeds to my PPC.

I need a good Rumplestiltskin-esque nap - when I wake up, maybe all this will be here.

I can't tell you how many times I've thought this myself. If I could go to sleep and wake up 20 years from now and still be my same age, I'd probably do it. Just look at where technology was 20 years ago...and imagine that much of an increase from today. 8O

And, while most things you mentioned could, theoreticly, be done, another thing we'd need (aside from hi-speed wireless) are connections that work. There are to many bugs and incompatibilities right now to allow a PPC to flawlessly connect to a work network, then a bluetooth GPS, then a home network...without any help from the user.

But, yes...with enough money, most of your ideas could be done. If anyone wants to send the money to me, I'll get right on it.
