Uh oh! Doesn't look like the future belongs to PPC or MS!

Looks like they're still playing catchup to Palm OS.....

What an insightful post...

Anyway, yes, you're right that the Palm OS currently has the lead in the smartphone market, but that's also because the smartphone market is pretty small. So the difference between the Palm OS's 47% and the Pocket PC's 20% is not that much.

Also, many manufacturers on the Pocket PC side are working on introducing some interesting devices. We'll definitely see some more heat in the smartphone market this year.

Are people being called Trolls now because they prefer Palm OS? Or perhaps it's because he linked to a report factually stating that Palm OS has a market share lead over Microsoft in the smartphone sector?

Just to be sure that what I THOUGHT was the definition of "Troll" was really was it was, I looked it up:
An electronic mail message, Usenet posting or other (electronic) communication which is intentionally incorrect
The information wasn't incorrect, intentionally or not, so there is no founded basis to call this person a troll. :?

Actually, that's not what it means anymore. Check out the first definition on Urban Dictionary (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=troll&f=1).

NOthing wrong with liking Palm (heck, all of us enlightened folks covet or give homage to Palm and its features). But this guy comes in and bashes the very thing this site is devoted to. He has no past here, offered no useful information, and didn't really contribute to anything. But he did push what is a hot button for a lot of people. He came in with the sole intent of getting some people here edgy.

I have nothing wrong with the report, it's factual. But how the report was linked isn't quite friendly.

The link you cited is exactly how I define "troll", too, and I agree with most of your reasons for branding him a troll. However, I wouldn't exactly say that Troll-5551212 "bashed" Pocket PCs; the tone of his post was kind of "Nyah nyah", but didn't sink to the level I'd call "bashing".

I also have no problem with the link to the report being posted; it was interesting information. It's just the way the Troll did it that was suspicious, especially given that it was its first post here.

As I've said both here and on Palm Infocenter, there are plenty of good reasons for choosing Pocket PCs, and there are plenty of good reasons for choosing Palms. If anything, I think the Palm camp has been the more innovative side lately, with devices like the Sony Clies (with the twist screens) and UX series, the Treo 600 and the Tapwave Zodiac.

I also think that Palm users and Pocket PC users have more in common than differences -- we all use PDAs.
