<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.microsoft.com/china/mobile/PocketPCphone/hardware/CU928.asp' target='_blank'>http://www.microsoft.com/china/mobi...dware/CU928.asp</a><br /><br /></div>Now here's a device I want. A Pocket PC Phone Edition with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. For real! Oh, did I mention it's a CDMA 1xRTT device <i>with</i> Bluetooth?<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/parekh-20040422-CU928.gif" /><br /><br />The device is fairly standard outside that (PXA263 at 400MHz, 64MB RAM/ROM, integrated VGA camera). The interesting part is the services that are going to be bundled. "With powerful streaming media functions, it is the first operator-customized device to support China Unicom’s new U-Web mobile data service...Based on Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PC, CU928 is the first device available to deliver the rich data content to customers taking advantage of Microsoft’s Media Player 9. This will enable customers to watch live TV programs, order videos and movies, and even check real time traffic conditions...Through Mobile Uni-Video, which will be launched soon, customers will be able to see the person they are talking to on the LCD screen of the CU928."<br /><br />Of course, it's not available in North America. And, with our luck, it'll probably never be available here. :| We can hope, though.

Now that's nice. Notice it still has 4 programable button's beside the call send ones. That is one reason PPCPE always turned me off(gamer).

Man, that looks sweet. 8O But I've gotten used to the coolest devices only being available in Asia.

But if it does well, we may someday see something like this over here. I'm ever hopeful, but I'm not counting on it.

North America for being the center of the universe certainly is on the backburner when it comes to communication technologies. It is time to realize and admit that we truly are getting screwed by the Telcos, and will almost never get to where Europe of Asia is with their telecommunication. I think that smells like monopoly to me.

on http://www.pocketpcmedia.com you can also find a bunch of streaming tv en radio stations.
Furthermore you can watch various music videos and short movies.

A wifi connection is recommended, although it also works great through gprs..

Shucks! I was ready to reach for my checkbook until I read it was not available in the US.

I was thinking this would be my way of getting out from under T-Mobile.

A topic of a device like this was brought up at the last Calgary PPCUG meeting. It too bad that Telus Mobility would never pick up a device like this even though it would sell like Calgary Flames flags at playoff time.

This seriously is a great design. I'm going to email some people at Sprint coporate to see if they want to carrying it. I sugest we all do the same. Customer demand really matters.

I like this very much except, like Sprint, Verizon will never get it. HEAR ME NOW VERIZON!!!! I have lost all faith in Verizon to provide any device that I would like. I want:

Bluetooth
Good phone
Bluetooth
Maybe smartphone features.
Bluetooth
GPRS or 1xRTT or EDGE for Data
BLUETOOTH!
WiFi if it is a PPCPE
BLUE-FREAKIN-TOOTH!

Think I made it clear enough?

If they don't offer these by the end of my verizon contract, I am taking my number and my money to T-Mobile. Verizon you may have the best network, but what good is it if I can't do anything I want to do on it?

I personally think there has been enough demanding for it. Everytime I visit Verizon or Sprint to look at what they got, they tell me they don't have Bluetooth and are not going to get it any time soon. I did have some guy pie in the skying the new upcoming phones with verizon. Sorry.....SHOW ME the phones....now, not later.

Everytime I visit Verizon or Sprint to look at what they got, they tell me they don't have Bluetooth and are not going to get it any time soon.

Marketing decisions are made at the corporate level, not the retail. Those poor guys at the retail store. They know about as much as what general public know. Some of them might be enthusiasts, just like we are. But they gather news from the same source as we do, like phonescoop.com and such. They wouldn't know about what new products are coming out unless it has been officially announced, and priced in the system. By the time, all the press release has already been out, and it's not much a mystery anymore. Don't give them such a hard time. They don't have much say in what the company direction is.

People at the corporate headquarter level are the only one who can respond to demand directly. Problem is, they are often blind to what is going on in the real world. If you want change to happen, they are the one who should be contacted directly.

Also, the truth is, most consumer at the retail store don't know anything about Bluetooth. Because of that, most of them probably don't care either. Also, any one who is half way intelligent can use the internet to find more info about a phone. Retail customers are people who don't know how to use the internet, let along wanting to have Bluetooth. More people want cheap phones with out the bells and whistles then phones with camera and web access. We are technology enthusiasts, almost a different breed of people.

No demand=No product.

First I don't give the people in the store a hard time. All I do is say boy it sure would be nice if you'd have x feature....

You know what they tell me? They tell me yes they hear it a hundred times PER DAY!

Second, they also have a responsibility (although I know most of them were hired because they have a warm body and can somewhat follow directions) to tell mangement that hey I am getting alot of customers who what X feature or X device (like the one we're talking about). In some T-Mobile stores(around here), the PPCPE has been selling like hot cakes. They can't say there's no demand because they (verizon and sprint) never has carried them! How do they know? Because of industry? Geeks have moved on to T-mobile and others (in the US) because they have the device they want. They only go back to Verizon or Sprint if they have no service or terrible service in their area. No demand for bluetooth? Everyone I know who isn't a geek does not want wires on their headset. They want bluetooth. Demand not there? Funny, I see people who know about it all of the time and it's not just geeks either.

Nice device, but it lacks one thing.. proper screen protection, and it looks like it will be very difficult to design a case for. Its also quite heavy, but its got a beefy battery, which is good, and is of course 3G, and being a pocketpc will be able to make good use of the data rates available.

I'm still with the MPx, but if any good 3G pocketpc,s with similar specs make it to the UK, I will certainly consider them.

I'll tell you what would made this thing REALLY sweet: a pivoting screen and WM2003SE.

Slide the keyboard down, pivot the screen, and surf, email in landscape...

Now THAT I'd buy.

A lot better than the iPAQ 6000, IMO... integrated antena and keyboard are great. A lot of people would buy this, IF THEY HAVE THE CHANCE TO DO THAT. But, uh, we won´t have that chance.

Well, I know that Sprint was going to come with a PPC 5050, and they called it a "Vision Smart Device". (I don't know how to attach a picture) It was going to have CDMA EV-DO, WM 2003 and all. Later, Sprint canceled it because Sprint is going to use EV-DV instead, which is faster then EV-DO.

The PPC 5050 is not the CU928 though.

Oh believe me, we know. Not only do various Pocket PC enthusiasts live in Japan, but NTT DoCoMo had a booth at CeBIT America last year. We'll just have to stay one step behind for a while. :| In the meantime, I wouldn't mind something like this.

ThunderCK is correct his numbers, for some reason when I was doing the conversion I used 260 grams rather than 210. I should have realized my error but even I make mistakes punching numbers... Sorry about that all.
