Some new screenshots from PDAgold.com including those square resolution. I seem to remember people criticising PalmOS platform for having square resolutions, now the PocketPC platform will be having those too.

I hope they will add a function similar to those on current PalmOS devices where you can write on the screen because with the input area up, half the screen is taken away.

If you scroll down half way where the author is demoing landscape mode, you will notice that landscape IE actually shows less data than portrait IE. This is also true in my experience with WebPro 3 on my T3 where in the majority of cases, more info can be fitted in portrait mode. [/img]

Square isn't necessarily bad, although I'm not sure how I'd be able to stand an input keyboard that takes up 50%+ of the screen.

Urm the square screens are meant for machines that have an integrated thumboard so it would be kind.
Its so that those machines can be made witouth being really long like the ipaq 4300 series.

Square and 160 x 160 resolution was laughable compared to PocketPC's standard resolution. I don't think many people criticize the newer Sony and Palm 320 x 320 screens (though, there's still enough other stuff to crtitcize).

I thought that one of the quirks with WM2003 is that the keyboard will pop up even if you have a keyboard built onto the pda. Until that issue is answered, I think that a square screen would be useless.

PHM Power Toys has an External Keyboard input method which prevents anything from popping up on the screen, like the on-screen keyboard or other input areas.

You're assuming an OEM that implements a square screen wouldn't also "fix" the SIPs so they don't appear automatically... ;)

mahhh I got a palm because I liked 320x320 more than 320x240. It wasn't even numbers that bothered me, but the shape. I like the square, it suits my personality
On the topic of ppc 2003, I think it looks a lot like the last one which is sooOooo boring, kind of like palm os 6. I don't like the way they all look right now :( just something seems sort of... not-powerful about them? or something.

opposed to aerestis i dont like square. rectangular is more like a notebook and you can use both directions. this makes 320x240 ideal for me

yeah, I shouldn't talk... I really hate my square these days. Actually, now that I think about it... I always wish my writing pad was screen space... it feels like such a stupid waste. I guess I just assumed that since I liked the square before, I'd like it more now. I kind of wish I had a rectangle to find out.
