View Full Version : Challenge: fill up my 256 MB

Well, I had the opportunity to grab a new Sandisk 256 mb SD card for under $40, so I snatched it up. My problem is that I'm only using 240 MB of my other 256mb card, so I'm not in want of space. But, I figure you guys are creative, and you can fill this space right up.

My challenge to you guys: tell me what to get. I'll donate $1 via Paypal to the guy who puts me over 64 MB used, $5 to who gets me over 128 MB, and $10 to anyone who gets me to my limit. OK, it's not much of a prize, but it's money for nothing . The catches:

I don't want music or video files, large image collections, offline content of websites, or similar ilk (so no telling me to use DVD to Pocket PC on any my complete collection of Monty Python, or to scan in a graphic novel). I'm thinking of things along the lines of games and useful applications. To make it even harder, I'm not going to pay to download software, but I will download freeware, shareware, and demos to my heart's content.

Let's see who here is the best at overloading their PDAs with information...

This (http://www.alfcen.com/pocket/taiyokei.htm) application and it's supporting files would add about 24 Mg of good stuff to your PPC if you are at all interested in astronomical information.

Have fun!

Wikipedia.org is available online in its entirety, and the only Wikipedia downloads for Wikipedia (http://members.chello.nl/epzachte/Wikipedia/) I've seen use this information (and won't fit on the storage card )
If you point me to a copy of MyDict for Pocket PC, I'll add that to the collection, but a quick Google search brought up nothing.

Wow, nifty program. Unfortunately, all the addons are just image files with small VB scripts. So while those addons take up a bunch of space, they don't qualify for my challenge. I'll count this one as 4.67 of 239.30 MB.

Note the challenge is "tell me what to get", not "download everything listed somewhere"... no cheating!

1. Get Sprite Backup and keep about 2 - 3 old backup files (make one every other day, that way if you install new software and it messes up your system after a few days of use (i've been burned by that) you have 2 old backups there. Its saved me a few times on my 256 SD card:

Approx 60 MB there.

2. Rip one of your favorite CD's using WMP and put it on the card. Great for those times you want a quick escape: Approx 40 mb.

3. Signup for Audible.com and place portions of the ebooks you buy on your SD card. Approx. 20 mb.

4. Keep pictures of your kids, dog, cat, parakeets, etc.. on there to show friends: 10 mb.

5. Download some free ebooks to peruse when not busy (5 - 10 mb, maybe more).

6. Backup critical PC files on the card (i.e. your microsoft money file, your resume, your other critical data files) in a password protected ZIP file. While its no replacement for a good backup for your PC, you'll be glad to know they are safe and immediately accessible should your PC take a flaming leap. (Variable MB)

Well, there are my suggestions. Hope they inspire you.

Jon.

Oops a little boo boo... the program is called MDict.... and it uses a dbase called Wordnet20.mdx, I do not remember where I downloaded it from but it was all free.

Try this...

I found Wikipedia here... I have not used it... but for those that would want it I am sure it is worth while.

Use Applian's ReplayRadio on your desktop to record 6 hours of radio shows per day and transfer them to your card to listen to on your drive to/from work every day. Each hour of programming takes up about 25MB. I just bought a 1GB card so that I can keep my music, photos, games, ebooks, backups and radio shows all on one card rather than having to switch between two 256MB cards.

Hmmm, I managed pretty easily to fill my 512MB card to about 400MB with JUST APPLICATIONS/GAMES. And there are still things I want to install!

That's no data, no MP3s, no ebooks, no videos, no databases, no extraneous images, etc... All purely apps.

I really want one of those 1GB SD Cards. You know, so I can carry some data and stuff too :-)

I don't think it's legal for you to be redistributing those programs...

Why don't you save the donation money and buy a good app or two  ?

I wish I have problem filling a storage card. My Gilbert Goodmate game alone takes up 73.7MB on my 256MB SD. I had to do some major deleting to make room for it. I had hoped the price of 512MB SD would dive after the introduction of 1GB SD. It didn't. At least not to a level of my liking :? .

In my case, it is not the app that could fill a card, it is what you do with the app that could use the bits and bytes. I have poor sense of direction, so I downloaded maps. Try download several cities worth of maps and you could fill a flash card pretty quickly :D.

The full install of Gilbert Goodmate is pretty sizey. I bought it a few weeks ago, but haven't had time to start playing it yet... :(

Summer is soon, though! :)
