I'm having a "duh" moment...just got out of an acupuncture appointment and I'm ditzy. What's the difference between the ARM/MIPS/SH3 versions? Which do I need??? I have an Axim 5 running PPC 2002, most recent ram(?) rom(?) version.

You need the ARM version.
MS used to support multiple chips for pocket pc. This support was withdrawn leaving only the ARM chip supported. That is the basis of the xscale cpu that is in the Axim.

And the newest Intel innovation is rumored to be the ARM-PIT.
This is the ARM with the Processor Instant Threading technology and built in wireless odors.....you won't see that kind of functionality in the old SH3 or MIPS chips....
