View Full Version : Bluetooth Serial Port Problems

Okay... I have been screwing with this all day and even talked to Belkin Tech support... and still no dice. Here is the setup:

Socket BT CF Adapter (works well with my SE T616)
Belkin USB BT adapter
Axim X5 WM2003
Compaq Laptop Running 2000 Professional
All software is latest updates including drivers and activesync.

The laptop and axim talk to each other, but the problem is that the com port for the BT serial services is set to 10 or 11 by Belkin with no way to change it to something lower. Activesync does not see this com port, or any com port other than the original ones (1,2,4) for serial, modem, and IR.

I have reloaded, then reinstalled drivers, and activesync with the same problem. For some reason activesync will not see any new serial ports. Windows sees them fine and I can add new ones with no problem, other than activesync.

I'm going nuts, and I REALLY don't want to resort to calling MS tech support. I did call Belkin's tech support, and they were somewhat helpful, but it is now obvious that the problem is not theirs.

I have searched a few sites on this, and read through about 50 threads, and I have seen some others with the same problem, but never a resolution, or at least never a description of a resolution. There is nothing helpful on MS site that I could find.

Has anyone had this problem and been able to correct it? If so HOW???

Please save me the dreaded call to MS or Dell!!!

I had a very similar problem with Bluetooth...

I wish I could tell you it was easy to fix, but it wasn't. My ports were in the 40+ range. I would up hacking the registry to get it to work. It was not pretty.

Steve - I read through the 6 pages of info in your other post, but I did not see any info of actually how you fixed it. I know you messed with the registry, but my poking around the registry doesn't seem to have done anything exciting - when I connect (activesync) or try to, the PC says I am connected to dialup networking connection, even though that port is serial port 4, and active sync is set to 1 or 2 (tried both, 4 is the modem).

I'm still stuck. :(

I really don't want to reinstall windows

Keith,

IIRC, what I did was go into the registry settings for each of the ports, changed them to what I knew they should be, then reinstalled the bluetooth software. After that, all was well...

YMMV...
