<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.kiwisrus.net/mediacontrol/default.htm' target='_blank'>http://www.kiwisrus.net/mediacontrol/default.htm</a><br /><br /></div>"Welcome to the home of the Pocket PC Media Control. Pocket Media Control is a free application that allows a Pocket PC with a network connection to remotely control Windows Media content on a Windows desktop. The idea is that if you are wandering around wirelessly and want to control your media collection you can do that using the power of Pocket PC. This is especially fun if you have a distributed audio system and have speakers connected throughout your house driven by media content playing from a PC. The application is designed to look just like version 8.5 of the Pocket PC Windows Media Player itself so it is very easy and intuitive to use..."

The price is right, that's for sure. I'd likley start using my WMP more with this. Now I have hook up my PC audio out to my stereo. Unfortunately they're about 75' apart. :?

I am the primary person behind the app in question. It is a little hobby fun! Feel free to send suggestions, questions and feedback to me at
[email protected]. I will do my best to help out.

Anyone here use the awesome XBMC (Xbox Media Center)? It can be controlled through it's built-in web server and some guys have been making nice frontends for the pocket pc. Check it out here (http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.pl?s=1be0e2e1a67405c823d5c19b9814e8d5;act=ST;f=7;t=3050;hl=pocket+pc)

have downloaded it and tested it, am not used to WMP and Playlists but I can't seem to see a way to get it to play movies ?
my 'media' PC is hooked up to my TV in the living room and primarily plays movies, this would be a great way of controlling them (currently I VNC in, but it's slow and clunky)

Sorry it does not really support movies. I wrote it to support headless play back of music. It does this as background process (or service) and does not write to the screen at all. In fact at home I use it with a box that has all my music loaded but no screen at all.
What happens when you choose a movie? I would guess it plays the sound but no picture? Is that what happens?
It could be adapted fairly easily to do what you wanted. I can supply you the source code if you want to take a crack at it....
A friend has taken it and is modifying to remote control a Windows Media Center OC and he will support movies and photos on one of those boxes once that is done.

I was going to ask if it supports MCE, I would be very interested in this software when it does.
I just spect a weekend running cable through my house so that I can watch my MCE content upstairs and down. This program would be great to be able to control the music from the deck.
Let me know when it is available.

Nice software!
I have been playing around with more or less the same (written in C#) but like spacerace, I am more interested in playing movies.
I have used the activeX media player control (visible) in my server application and with a full screen switch on the PPC it works quite nice. Perfect for pausing movies played from the PC on the TV screen without ever leaving the couch :D
I am now working on the integration into the media library so I can select what movie to see from the PPC.
I am also using a web service to communicate between the two applications. It’s fun to see how close the two solutions are in use of technology. Luckily both projects are “hobby” projects, so I hope we can leave out the lawsuits for now. :hippy:

Update...guess I should test it before I praise how great it is. I finally got it installed last night, and it connects to my computer fine, but when I hit "Select" and then PlayLists, Artists, Albums, or Genres, it just sits there saying "Fetching..." :( I even left it like that for an hour or so, and it still says that. Darn. :( This sounds like a great program, but I can't get it to work. Any ideas?

I think craigde is going to have a bash at getting it to play movies. hopefully an element of this will be the ability to select individual files, not just playlists.
I have exactly what I want with music using WinAmp and Snowcrash. If I can get something that handles both movies and music (or even just movies) via a web based controller I'd be VERY happy (and stuck in front of the TV for hours !)
