1. Compact Edition
or
2. Consumer Electronics edition
And which one is the historically correct?

I've always thought it was Compact Edition, but I'm not as long-in-the-tooth as others here.

I got in on the CE game with 1.0. As I recall, there really was no definative statement on what it stood for, only suggestions. A look
