Just for reference, the 1.10 they posted a month ago was:

ROM Date: 03/02/04
ROM Revision: 1.10.20 ENG
OS Version: Windows CE 4.20

Went without a glitch What used to say 1.00.10 ENG after a soft reset now say 1.00.13 ENG

WAIT! Why does the ROM date say 07/08/03??

Product Revision Level : 4.0
ROM Date : 07/08/03
ROM Revision : 1.00.13 ENG
OS Version : Windows CE 4.2

Sorry I am in the wrong place!! I did the 5555 update These should be the same though The 5555 link ismessed up too. It points to version 1.00.13 instead of 1.10

This is pretty confusing.

Sure...HP have a new ROM version (1.00.03) available for the h1940.
The previous one available (1.10) was dated March 8, 2004.

1.00.03 was released April 6, 2004.
What else is weird is that HP neglected to provide a list of fixes for this new (older?) ROM version.

Why has something that is released later been given an older ROM revision number?
The SoftPaq no. of the 1.00.03 is larger than that of the 1.10.

I'm an updating freak...so maybe I'll just try the update and see what it's like. If not, I'll just flash it back to the 1.10 version. I'll list updates here if I get round to it...the thought of hard-resetting my device though makes me quiver in fear. Hmmmm.

OK...

The good news: I d/l the file to see what it was all about.
And before I applied the update (thankfully), I saw this in the readme:

--------------------------------------
Please read the following important information about updating the ROM on your HP h1940 series iPAQ Pocket PC.

This is a ROM update. It will restore your device to its original shipping ROM with no added fixes. Please monitor the Support and Drivers section of the HP website for future ROM or Software updates for this product.
--------------------------------------

Well what a waste of a 14.9MB download - me and my poor crappy little dial-up connection.

Why would HP get rid of the 1.10 update though?

Yeah i wondering why... Maybe they are covering up their tracks saying they didnt offer any rom updates for teh h1940 so that they cant give us one for WM2003SE :) hahha nah that doesnt make sense

I'm just wondering... would it be possible to flash the 1940 rom to a 1930 to get a speed increase? From what I understand, the only differences between them are that the 1940 has bluetooth, and the chip is clocked at 266 Mhz. The CPU itself is the exact same in both, they're just clocked differently. The lack of bluetooth might choke things, though.

I tried to flash it to my h1935, but after it detected a device connected and all that, it said "This patcher only works with iPaq 1940 models. Please download a ROM update utility for your device" or something to that extent. If we could fool the patcher into thinking the 1930 was a 1940, we should be able to patch correctly.

It would be a pretty sweet thing if it were possible.

I'm trying to find out the product id for the 1940/1945 device, but I can't locate it anywhere on the web. If anyone that has a 1940 could post it it'd be really helpful. You can find out the PID using something like USB Monitor (link here (http://www.hhdsoftware.com/usbmon.html) - shareware) or usbserial if you're using linux. Using USB Monitor, you can find it by selecting the USB port, then device descriptor.

For reference, the prod id of the 1930 is 0x1016. HP's vendor id is 0x03f0.
