what do you think?

X3 has newer processor (PXA263) while X5 has PXA255, x3 performance is better than X5 (x3 graphics is much more better than x5).

X5 on the other hand have CF and SD slots, good if i want to have GPS in CF, and maps in SD.. while in X3 if i get GPS in SDio, i don't have place for maps..
but X3i have bluetooth built-in (europe edition at least), can move to bluetooth gps.

battery of X5 is has higher capacity (1200+), while X3 is 900.

what about size, how is carrying extra weight of x5 everyday than x3? do you feel the difference?

finally, X5 looks better than X3.

price difference is not important.

X3:
Pros:
-more performace
-bluetooth
-less weight

Cons:
-less battery
-1 slot (SDio)

X5:
Pros:
-2 slots (SD + CF)
-more battery

Cons:
-no bluetooth
-heavier
-less perdormance

If you go with the HP iPaq 2215, you would not need to comprimise. You can get the size of the x3, with the beauty of x5. And have SD (with sudo, which x5 doesn't have) and CF. The only thing you don't get is built in WiFi which doesn't sound inportant to you anyway. As far as battery life, they are not always created equal. Even though the 2215 has a 900 battery. Most have said that thay get as much usage of the 2215 on a full charge as any other PDA with a higher rated battery.

x3i w/bt and wifi is a good choice

Can you even get the X5 anymore? Last I checked it wasn't even on the page.

I love my X5 but if I was buying now I'd get either an X3 with wifi or an Ipaq 4155. I'm not buying now though and I can be happy with my X5 for another good while I think :)

Although I never thought it would matter, going from a X5 to a 2215 made me decide never to go back to a big Pocket PC again. Really, the difference in size and weight does matter, especially if you remember that this is an item you're going to carry on a daily basis.

As for the GPS: it seem you dont already have a GPS unit. You're not limited to a CF or SDIO based GPS unit. You also might want to try one off these Bluetooth based units. I've used a Socket Bluetooth GPS, and it really works nicely. And you don't need to occupy a slot for that.

If you're stuck on Dell, my advice would be to go with the X3i, preferably the one with BT and WiFi built in, so you probably can always use your SD slot for a memory card.

I'd suggest you read PPCT's reviews of both devices. I used an X3i for a month and have owned an X5 for 14 months, so I've "been around the block".

The X3 is VERY thin, fast, and bright. I miss the CF slot and battery life with wifi is bad. Bluetooth is not integrated, by the way.

You can still order an X5 from Dell if you call them. It's a bigger, slower device, but has tons of battery power (even with a wifi card) and a CF slot.

If I had to do it all over again, I'd consider an HP 2215 (if I wanted CF), or an X3i with two batteries.

I hate to say it, but Bluetooth IS integrated, and the X5 can be ordered from their website, so no need for a phone call.

As the chap said earlier: X3i have bluetooth built-in (europe edition at least)Indicating that we are looking at dell.co.uk, not the US version!

Well, I have an X5 Advanced and an X3i w/ 2 batteries so I feel qualified to give my opinion.

Buy a 4155. 8O

Yes, that's right. Buy the HP. Here's why:

1. Although the X5 is very comfortable in the hand, it is a bit heavy and is rather bulky when in your pocket.

2. The X3i eats batteries when the wifi is on and it has the WORST shape of ANY PocketPC on the market. It is square on the bottom, except the corner has these little rails that dig painfully into your hand. I have a bruise at the base of my left palm because of this device.

I bought the X3i over the 4155 because the Dell had a consumer grade IR port and the Ipaq has a weaker IR port, like the X5. Also, at the time, I didn't consider Bluetooth to be important to me. Since then, I have bought a T610 phone with IR and BT and I also want a BT enabled GPS receiver.

So, want to make me an offer on either of my Dell PocketPC's? I think I am about to buy the HP 4155 for myself.

If the choce is between an x3 and an x5, i weould certainly choose the x5, the main reason being the shape and the two expansion slots over one. Plus the fact that i think it looks aesthetically better. But then again i do have an x5 and i would say that :p

Unless he really needs a dual-slot device. ;)

in the case of dual devices 2215 is a better way to go rather than x5
with built in wireless functions and larger rom capacity the need for CF wont be much.

Re the 2215: Quite possibly.

Re less need: Not necessarily. I like having my SD for programs and other "permanent" storage (yes I use a lot), and the CF card for music and video files. That way, I can swap CF cards, but my programs are still there on the SD card that never gets taken out.

x30 unless you need dual slot!
