2 Days ago I had tripped and fell onto my side. I had my phone and my pocket pc in my pocket, the phone obviously pressed into the pocket pc, leaving this as the result.

I'm wanting to get a approximated guess on how extensive this damage is? I'm no expert on the working of an LCD unit, so your expertise and/or experience would be beneficial to me. The unit still powers on and I can access data through ActiveSync, however, as evident in the photo's, the LCD is not working.
Is it actually possible to replace the whole LCD unit? If so, can I expect a large repair cost, or would it be more beneficial to cut my losses (or buy a new pocket pc).
Thanks for your help.

I too have had the misfortune of breaking a screen. I didn't bother trying to find someone that carried an LCD that would work. I just bought/upgraded to a new PPC.

Unfortunately for me, this _is_ a new pocket pc.
And since this is the best pocket pc for my price range (ipaq 4150), I have nothing to upgrade to.
I'd much rather to get it fixed.

Is this kind of damage covered under your warranty?

No it isn't, however it would come under my home & contents insurance.

Sorry about the iPAQ. I had damamge to my 2215 and sent it to the HP center. They basically repaired the issue but caused another one. Neddless to say, I had to return it back to HP and wait for repair. Total time with out a iPAQ is one month.
Here are some alternatives.

Looks like you smushed your LCD and also moved the connection between the display ribbon and the board. If you are adventurous, you can open it, realign the ribbon, and see if it works. The brown spot will probably still be there if you ever get it realigned.
Unfortunately, LCD units (esp. ones with touchscreen) are quite expensive.

I'm taking it into Compaq tomorrow to get a quote on the damage. I'm guessing they'll quote me for a new LCD unit, and then heinously overcharge the labour costs.
Finger's crossed it won't be too much,

Quick update:
Took it into Compaq, they quoted me $570 for the repair (this is in NZD, the price of a new pocketpc here is $700).
Although this is quite a demanding price, my insurance company is going to pay for the damage, excluding $250 excess.
