If want a great way to just surf the internet wirelessly and you don't have Cable or DSL. Well then bluetooth is a great way to go, and the only way from what I have found out for the common 56k user. I can now surf the internet from my laptop or Pocket PC anywhere in the house or on my Front Porch.
I was always convinced that I needed expensive 802.11b hardware and a Cable or DSL modem to have a fun time with Wireless internet but I now believe for the common home owner Bluetooth ROCKS!!!!
:D :D :D
Tell me if you have tried this.

I should also note that all I did was place a USB Bluetooth device in my Desktop at home that is connected to the internet via my dial-up connection. My home computers are all networked to the internet via that slow 56k connection. :?

Actually, you can get WiFi on 56k connections. I have an SMC 7004WABR router, which has a serial port so it can connect to a dial-up modem (or ISDN terminal adapter). It is, however, very unreliable, so I'll probably get a different one soon. Netgear sells one with serial also, I forget the model number, but it's about $150. And Apple makes a version of the Airport with a built-in 56k modem. And finally, Actiontec sells a "Dual PC Modem," which is basically a 56k modem that connects to the computer over ethernet, so you can just connect it to any router. So it can be done. :)
But nice idea though, especially if you have a desktop that you can use for this (which I don't). :)

That is interesting!!! I wonder why they don't advertise those better. Allot of us out here would find those very useful.

I've been hoping to get a wi-fi set up at some point. This has given me pause to think with my dial-up connection. If I'm already connected, will Internet Connection Sharing or something like that allow me to surf with my Pocket PC if the desktop is connected?
